AIBU?

Irons

AIBU to expect an iron to last longer than 12 months? I have had 3 in the last 3 years and the flex has worn on all of them, rendering it dangerous and unusable. The flex on irons is covered in some sort of woven material and inevitably wears various points. Usually where you wind it up. Other electrical appliances have plastic coated flexes which are longer lasting.

Why can't irons have flexes like hair driers for instance?

I know this is trivial but need to buy a new iron after noticing the flex was twisted and the earth wire showing on 3 places.

Really pisses me off. Why do they make them like this? Is there a reason?

Mine is 6 years old and showing no signs of wear at all (I just checked - is it an April fool to get us all checking??)

What do you DO to your iron? Mine gets flex wound round base and put on a shelf.

That's all I do. I don't know why but the flex just twists and the. Starts to wear out. I don't even use it that much!

I expect the flexes aren't plastic in case you accidentally melt them.

I will have to buy a cordless one. Expensive.

Do you keep receipts? I think most things are still under warranty for 12 months. My mum does a lot of ironing and if her iron goes kaput within a year she takes it back for an exchange. I know people on hear moan about Tesco but her local one has always replaced it no questions asked.

My irons last longer than a year. I've just replaced mine, it was around 6 years old, but we live in a very hard water area so it was a bit clogged.

DS1 brought his home the other day (he is between army camps) he's had it 9 months, it looks brand new.

My iron flex, the one I've just got rid of, and DS1's have plastic flexes.

my iron's flex is as good as new after 12 years of only using it for hama beads and iron on patching

You need this Lagoon, no need to buy a new iron.
