To not want to be spat upon?

So after a weekend of shitty illness I felt like taking the girls and boy out for a walk to the shops and park.

Was all good, we started on the way home and turned a corner and a man walked by and spat and caught the arm of my coat.

I shouted at him what the hell he thought he was doing, I was absolutely disgusted. I mean who the hell spits in public like that? And he completely ignored me and kept walking on! I couldn't do anything because I had the children with me.

I luckily had wipes in the pushchair and got a whole wodge to wipe it off, then came home and put it in the wash...(I hope it washes properly it's a padded skiing coat).

I know I'm not BU, but this isn't the first time someone has spat near me like this. Why do people spit in public? I always see white globules on the pavements. People are disgusting. Now I'm cringing every time I think of his spit germs on my coat.

That's one of my biggest pet peeves, people spitting in public. Yuck.

YANBU, spitting is disgusting.

There was a guy who lived downstairs from my old flat and he would spit at the door whenever he was having a cigarette so that everyone else was left with a saliva assault course to deal with.

Another thing I see often is men who are certainly old enough to know better spitting off the platform onto the train tracks. Again and again until the train arrives, proper globs of spit. Absolutely disgusting.

It’s fucking vile and you have every right to stick your foot out and trip them up next time you see someone do it.

The worst is at bus stops where men spit all over the floor and everyone else has to avoid standing in it.

It's always men though; when was the last time you saw a woman do it? Have we just evolved to deal with saliva better or is it simply because we don't watch premiership football so much?

A kid from another school did this to me when I was 14. I walked to his school and asked to see the headmaster and told him one of his boys had spat on my skirt and asked what he was going to do about it- completely out of character for me. They found the culprit and his mate and they had to pay for a new skirt, 'I'm sorry' card and a box of chocs #justiceforthespatupon

I think people who spit need locking away, never to be released. It's vile and people who do is are like some kind of sub species.

Mine might be a slight over reaction but I really hate it that much.

I have seen a woman spit down the inside of a bus shelter when I was standing next to her. It landed on the glass and slid down leaving a lovely trail. I couldn't help but look at her like Shock - she just smiled sweetly, obviously didn't see the problem.

Yes indeed, some people are utterly disgusting.

I would have thrown up all over him...I nearly did just reading about it. Maybe that would have made him realise he is a filthy pig (sorry pigs, you are actually not filthy at all)

They all did it. Fucking disgusting.

OP, I would've taken a photo of him and the spit and reported him to the police.

I've seen a couple of women do it. More and more young men are doing it like they think it makes them look hard. I've seen a couple of Middle aged men who look like they should know better do it. I shouted at one and called him disgusting and he shouted back that I was disgusting Hmm.

I hate it so much it makes me irrationally angry and I think I would prefer to step in dog shit then someone's phlegmmy gob. Makes my skin crawl.

I live in a borough where you can be fined for spitting and I will use my phone to photograph and report the next person I see doing it.

It's vile.

Karma = a man sitting on a bench spat very nearly on my feet as I walked past - I had to do a quick swerve or it would have got me. I was interviewing people for a job that day. Mr Spitty turned up for an interview. He did NOT get the job.

I didn't know you can be fined for spitting in some places. I wish they had that here, I don't think we do.

I'm just thankful he didn't spit into the pushchair on the baby I suppose.

ilove that's brilliant. Disgusting little shit; served him right!

This was a bone of contention in the first couple of years of my relationship with DP. He was a regular smoker and we live in a country that doesn't seem to consider it quite as shocking (though I don't see that many people do it tbh). He said he needed to do it because of the mucus he developed in his throat whenever he was outside. I think it was partly a conditioned response due to associating 'going outside' with smoking, so he felt the mucus backing up in his throat whenever we walked anywhere outside.

He has since quit smoking and doesn't do it as much. I go absolutely mental at him for doing it if and when he does it when we visit the UK though.

The other week a guy with a dog was walking towards me and let it wander across to the lamppost, blocking my path. I stepped round to walk around it, then it started pissing on said lamppost so I stepped sharply out into the road to not get pissed on, and went over on my ankle. The people behind the twat saw it and clearly thought my ankle looked horrendous when it happened. I ended up not being able to walk on it for a few days. Angry

I despise people who spit in the street. It is absolutely vile.

Once at a train station I was carrying a massive box containing toy musical instruments for DS' Christmas present. I placed the box on the ground and ended up with a handful of junkie grog when I slid my hand under to pick it up again.

Minging.

Saw a woman spitting in the street only today.

I cussed a friend out for doings, his response? I did it down the drain though. Still told him what I thought, and he's not done it since. (In my sight anyway!)
