to think £17 is too much for Harry Potter audiobook

£17 on the Pottermore website.

Is this the only option?
Am I going to have to subscribe to Audible or something? I already pay for Netflix, Lovefilm and Scribd.

Any ideas?

Are you a member of your library? If so download the overdrive app (check to see if your library is signed up to it) and you can download the audiobook and borrow it for 3 weeks, for free. Same way you would a paper copy. Worth a try?

Free if you sign up to your library. You need the Overdrive app on your phone or tablet, join your library through that then borrow ebooks and audiobooks for free.

My local libraries don't do it. Am going away tomorrow and was hoping to take it. Not sure if it would work for us because I've got very old iPad (doesn't update apps any more as its a first generation on and the OS can't update) and 2 iPods which are v old school and no apps at all. It'd need to be importable in iTunes.

They are really long though and Steven fry is very good. I used to have the cassette tapes and then the CDs- flogged them all at a car boot last year for £5 a book.

We have got the whole set on cd, yes they were expensive but oh, I wish I had a pound for every time ds listened to them, I'd be a millionaire by now!! And they were an absolute godsend on long car journeys!

I feel a bit tight about it TBH as I bought the box set at Christmas, and some of the books, and a few of the eBooks too. I guess I do have 3 DSs so it's worth it up to a point.

£17 is a fairly average amount for an audio book on audible if you pay full price - some of the Terry Pratchett are over £20. The Philosopher's stone from Pottermore is 8.5 hours of Stephen Fry, which is fairly comparable to the Audible abridged versions of the Cressida Cowell Dragon books, read by David Tennant which are around £12 for 5.5 hours on audible.

The difference is, of course, that there are subscriptions on audible and frequent sales and offers, so it's fairly rare to pay full price.

Get audible. Download your free book. Then subscribe straight away. Best value is to pay for a year in advance and one book works out 5 pounds each.

Is rare to pay full price few months in. Youvare getting 10 pounds voucher if you use 3 of your credits. But to start with you would just use your credits.

We are listening to the dulcet tones of Stephen Fry in the car as I type. We are on a loooong journey. Kids are just fine. The books are worth every penny for the gift of low stress car travel that they bring.
