have nc doubt the dm readers will be out in force for this one

dh has had an annual bonus of 2700

which should be awesome news but I nearly cried when dh told me

as this happened a few years ago as well, and i know that when I do our tax credits renewal they will end up royally screwing me up the ass and taking loads off us. even though dh will prob come out with 2k, max, of his bonus, if he is lucky, but tax credits will take the whole amount off us

so it will hit ME in MY pocket cos dh is doing well at work

bonuses should be just that, a FUCKING BONUS

so pissed off

Are you not going to benefit from the bonus? As in, will your DH keep it all?

Household income is household income. Tax credits are based on that. What exactly do you expect?

Littlemonstersrule · 23/03/2015 18:12

Of course you can't expect to keep the bonus and tax credits, surely you should be proud of him for earning more and needing less from the state than blaming tax credits. You could always find extra work so that next year you don't need tax credits and the bonus then can be as big as he can earn.

I'm confused. Are you saying the tax credits will reduce by more than the net bonus payment? If not, then you're better off.

Report
atticusclaw · 23/03/2015 18:14

If what you're saying is that he won't share the bonus then thats something to take up with him.

Do the tax credits reduce your income more than the total bonus amount ?

Report
nequidnimis · 23/03/2015 18:15

Do you mean that tax credits are worth more than the bonus to your household income?

In which case you're actually losing money?

If so YANBU to be annoyed but the benefits system is based on need and I don't think anyone would expect the state to be supporting a family with an income above a certain amount.

Another one here who doesn't understand the financial implications of what you're saying. Can you spell it out for us?

NeedABumChange · 23/03/2015 18:18

Your family doesn't need the tax credits if your family has more money. Bonkers to think you should still get benefits when you get more money Confused

Furyfowler · 23/03/2015 18:18

Is he not going to be sharing the bonus with you?.... So he will just spend it like it's a bonus whilst you have to pick up the tax credit pieces?

Do you mean he will trouser the bonus because he earnt it leaving you £2k down in the family pot?

Report
esiotrot2015 · 23/03/2015 18:20

Little monster is right
If he's earning more it should go towards monthly expenses rather than relying on tax credits

Report
FuckingTaxCredits · 23/03/2015 18:20

the tax credits will reduce by (quite a lot) more than the net bonus payment

so we will be Worse Off

YOu can't expect the state to support you if the bonus takes your household income above a certain level. Surely you will both benefit from the bonus. If DH won't share this, that is not a matter for the state either.

Surely you would rather be supporting yourselves than relying on tax credits. Well done to your DH.

It is annoying that he's got a bonus and you feel you will be no better off. But tax credits are worked out on the basis of household income and your DH's bonus is part of the household income. So there isn't any get round that. I think the sooner tax credits end the better for everyone.

The bonus will take the place of the tax credits you lose. As a lone parent of two disabled children I am finding it very hard to be sympathetic to your "plight".

oh and the money will be paying off a credit card debt and paying off our holiday

as the tax credits go into my account I am the one who will have less in the bank

although dh says he will pay for more stuff to make up the balance
