AIBU?

Feel so disheartened about failing driving test

It's the bloody 4th time I've done it. I can drive very well. Have the driving license in my home country. But every time at the test, I do something stupid, like approaching the roundabout too fast/too slow, not reading traffic signs properly, not stopping at closed junctions etc. I feel like such an idiot. I don't feel particularly nervous before the test, so doubt beta blockers would help me. I tried eating a banana but obviously that was not helpful. Today I failed because I went on the right side of the road, when the sign on the middle of the road said go left. The frustrating thing is, I'd probably not have done these idiotic mistakes if I was driving normally. Please tell me I'll pass one day. I stopped taking lessons because I couldn't afford them anymore so I guess I'm going to have to take the test again and again until I bloody pass.

Flowers I failed four times. Last time I had a toddler style hissy fit and vowed never to do it again and i didn't. It is so disheartening and I couldn't put myself through it anymore. But plenty of people pass after multiple failures, these people have more patience than me though Grin.

I really do hope you manage it. I drove perfectly well on my lessons, there's something about an examiner sat next to you that makes you do things you'd never normally do. Good luck!

I failed three times - same examiner each time - was so nervous I was shaking and sick.

Have now been driving safely for twenty five years. Don't worry OP - it is a pain but you will get there in the end.

Persevere with it, I, like you, failed a fee times and vowed never to ever put myself through it again, but I had a great driving instructor that believed in me and booked my tests for me until I finally passed. You won't look back!
Good luck Smile

Bloody hell, love, if I can do it, anyone can. Seriously. Is it worth looking at one of those intensive courses where you do it all over a weekend? ( I understand that you can already drive). I had hundreds of lessons.

I passed fifth time too. And I was 37 weeks pregnant. If I can, anyone can!

my dad failed his 7th test by driving off the edge of a railway bridge thinking he was pulling into a layby... he passed his 8th... if HE can pass after that, then you sound like you have no problem!!

Try and get some more practice in before the next test with someone who is critical but fair.

Unless the examiner said you are a positive danger to anyone else on the road I think you should continue.

I passed on my fifth test. One thing my instructor did say to me but was that if I had have failed on my fifth attempt, he would have suggested that I see a different instructor that obviously what he was teaching me wasn't translating well in the test.

It took me 60 hours of lessons, a 5 day intensive course and 4 failed attempts to pass at the age of 31. Don't give up! I've been driving 4 years now and touch wood no problems !

I think part of my problem was I wasn't getting enough practice on the road. So after my first 3 fails I went on the intensive course and passed at the end of the week.

I'd honestly get some more lessons, save up and do a 3 or 5 day intensive to give you lots of road confidence and try again.

Failed 8 times. I only passed because the examiner felt sorry for me.
But I've been driving a year now and no accidents to date.
I don't think failing a lot means someone is a bad driver. The test seems to suit some people more than others.

It will happen for you, I promise.

Could you do an intensive course?

I failed twice. Should have probably failed the third time but I think the lovely instructor lady gave me a sympathy pass.

You will get there eventually!

I didn't pass till my 3rd attempt but I was ready to throw in the towel after my 2nd fail. I'm so glad I didn't though.

You've come this far, can you afford a few more lessons and just focus on the bits you get really nervous about in the test?

Before my 3rd test I took 3 lessons just going round the test route so that it was more familiar ground.

Don't give up, you'll get it if you persevere!

Hello everyone, thought I'd update this thread. I bloody passed my driving test! On the fifth attempt! The examiner was an angel, which is probably why I passed. I've faced less sweet assholes examiners and driven better but they failed me. But this was my lucky day. Thanks for your support and advice. I did eat two bananas before the test if that helps :)

book two tests close to each other if you fail one you wont have time to get nervous enough for the second

i heard someone made two for the same day she actually passed the first one!

Yay congrats!

My husband took 7 or 8 attempts, I passed first time. I am not a better driver. Luck of the draw on the day.

Yes, hopeful hamster. It's definitely luck. I'm sure I made more mistakes, albeit minor ones, this last time than I did on my previous attempts. It also helped that my test was at 10.15am, when the traffic was really low so my mistakes stayed minor rather than becoming dangerous/serious mistakes if you know what I mean. Good luck to anyone else facing driving tests! I honestly thought I will never pass.
