He hasn't "finally shown his true colours". He's been saying much the same thing for years.

I don't have a problem with what he is saying...it would be better if jobs could go to British workers as opposed to workers from other countries.

Being British today is NOT dependant on your colour or race.

We need to do all we can in this country to ensure ALL of OUR people, whatever colour/race/age/gender or sexuality can find employment and make a decent life for themselves here in Britain.

And if that means that people who have chosen to leave THEIR own countries and homes to come here to find work find things more difficult...so be it!

Sorry I should have said in my initial post - I meant UKIP always CLAIM not to be racist. They can't really say that now.

Am hoping for them to say something similar about women, so all those female UKIP voters will stop being turkeys voting for Christmas. They are undoubtedly sexist but deny it.

It's terrifying that so many people are willing to vote for him.

oneday Not everybody leaves their country of origin through choice or because they think they will have a cushy life in Britain believe it or not.

all the jobs in the UK are available to 'British Workers' - they can apply for them - if they don't apply or they don't meet the requirements that's life

Mrsjayy · 12/03/2015 09:23

Do you honestly think they pinch our jobs really if you look at the jobs immigrants do and the employers who employ them you will understand why these people are employed and exploited

This whole ukip thing makes me feel very concerned. The only people I know that want to support them are bigoted and small minded individuals. The sort of people who stare and whisper about my family when I walk into a pub because we look a bit different. We've moved so far from this narrow minded crap and now I fear we are going back to it.

It is very concerning that what was a minority party who just wasted their time on jollys to Brussels is not rising in popularity

I don't agree with his policy but I don't think it's based on race, I think it's based on nationality. I think it is quite racist to think these are the same thing, or treat them as though they were.

Good grief, Farage's attempt at a defence in that link is actively dishonest, isn't it? He must know perfectly well that it makes it no better when he claims to be talking about nationalities, not races.

I also get very tired indeed of his insistence on the virtues of favouring people born in Britain. Has he not yet discovered that an awful lot of British people were born abroad because, you know, we have a colonial past, we send army families abroad for long stretches, people may be born abroad because their British parents were working there, etc etc etc?

Next it will sex discrimination laws and equal pay for women doing the same job as a male. He has also mentioned maternity pay in the past. Talk about going back to tge 1950's! The trouble is some people will vote for ukip without knowing their policies.

I have a FB friend who keeps sharing UKIP and Britain First type sentiments. Generally, I don't engage and for a while I had her hidden. Recently she posted some drivel about how you aren't allowed to be proud to be English anymore and the English flag is banned and if you celebrate being English, you're racist. UKIP are going to fix that apparently. I did ask her to point out one source outside of these British First, UKIP, BNP type groups she follows that says we can't have an English flag. She assures me it's everywhere. English flags are banned. I'm still waiting for an actual link. She also likes to share links about all the stuff we give to illegal immigrants. I worked out quite quickly that she thinks illegal immigrants, immigrants and asylum seekers are all exactly the same thing. Somebody else pointed out the distinction and she mumbled something about it not mattering what you call them, they're all just here stealing our jobs and claiming our benefits.

You just can't counter that lack of joined up thinking unless you want to go into a battle of wits with the unarmed.

What a stupid idea. He says he wants to repeal the laws so that employers can choose to employ a British person over a Polish person. (note he chose a white example!) They already can. There is no law to say if a foreign person applies for a job, you have to employ them. You go right ahead and hire the best person who applied. The laws just stop you saying 'no blacks or Irish', or not giving someone a job because of their nationality/ethnicity/etc. Why on earth would you argue that it's unfair to stop someone doing that?

The issue that people complain about, about certain groups of immigrants driving down wages and conditions in sectors such as agriculture because they are willing to accept less, may be valid. This will do absolutely nothing to address it though! You'd have to make it illegal to employ non-British people. Maybe that's his eventual plan.

Also does he really believe that it wouldn't be a problem any more, that minorities don't need protection these days like they did 'forty years ago'? He can't honestly believe that. He just doesn't care.

Racist, misogynist and stupid.

He pisses me off the way he always has to have a fag in his hand every time he's interviewed and the bloody camera always pans down to it. I'm not convinced that he is actually a racist bigot himself but he's no fool and he knows exactly the sort if people his spouting attracts. He glimpses power or at least the chance to take Britain out of Europe and he knows he has to appeal to psyche of those with more extreme views.
God help us though if his lot are involved in any sort of power share.

And yes to the stupid people who can't grasp the difference between economic migrants, illegal immigrants and asylum seekers.

oneday British people were born here because of nothing more than luck . That does not make you more deserving of being treated better. You are not better than people because you were fortunate enough to be born here. It's moronic to think we are more entitled to live and work here because of an accident of birth.

And they arguement about immigrants driving down wages really fucks me off. It's the unscrupulous employers people should aim their anger at, not the people their taking advantage of.

I completely disagree with the idea of giving preference to "British born" workers. What does that even mean?
My DCs were born abroad but it doesn't make them less British. Sounds like he is saying that British nationality isn't enough, so that even immigrants who have now obtained British nationality aren't good enough in his very unwelcome opinion.

What has me laughing and crying in equal measure are his insidious and dangerous comments about not needing race discrimination laws because the UK is post racial. Right you are Nige, I am sure you know all about it. HmmAngry

What is happening to the UK these days makes me want to fucking cry.

That would be Boris Johnson out of a job then ....

I think the only good thing about UKIP is that it might incentivise people to vote (sorry Russell) and try to stop these xenophobes.
