Stephanie O'Connor is a character in the movie secretary, which the poster is also of.

Maybe. But it's not really an advert per se. It's a company advertising a secretary job.

I dunno. I thought it was in bad taste. There are women on there commenting in support of the woman who posted it.

Weird.

OMFG

Not acceptable no.

Plus surely it breaks laws around jobs in that they are strongly indicating that the role is for a woman, and unless there is an extremely good reason that they are indicating they want a woman then it's illegal.

People to complain to would be the company who posted the ad (agency?) adn assume they will get a bollocking at least that's just gobsmackingly unacceptable.

Also most people are PAs these days, unless it's a company secretary or similar then they are being odd just on that front. I haven't ever worked with someone who had the title "secretary" and I've been in office roles for 20 years.

I think they probably thought they were being very arch and witty. But they really, really weren't.

law

"You mustn’t state or imply in a job advert that you’ll discriminate against anyone."

That job ad says to me VERY strongly that they are seeking a woman.

Also from CAB

"Sex discrimination and advertising

With a few limited exceptions, it's illegal to publish or broadcast an advert which discriminates because of sex, or which advertises discriminatory services. For example, it is illegal for an employer to advertise for a job using words like 'craftsman' or 'handyman', as this might give the impression that the job is only open to men.

If an advertisement like this is published, the Equality and Human Rights Commission can take court action against the publisher, if the case is referred to them by an advice agency."

Is there a proffessional Body of Secretaries? Any forum for PAs?

It is very distastful and discusting.

I've a feeling it's a planned publicity stunt and the company were hoping for an online outburst with their company name being mentioned often.

For some people there's no such thing as bad press.

I got that vibe too.

Annoying.
