I just had a look at Dax's tale of New York on facebook. I now see the £13k they promised of the publics money to Ronald Mcdonald House isn't going there now. They raised the money by advising the public, funds were to cover medical bills, then they were going to give to the charity.

That's fraud

tutu100 · 01/03/2015 13:11

Where are they saying the money is going to go to now?

JoanHickson · 01/03/2015 13:13

Here is a screen shot.

The admin of that page is an arsehole isn't he!

youbethemummylion · 01/03/2015 13:16
Hmm
tutu100 · 01/03/2015 13:16

So am I right in understanding that someone else is handling the money side of things. So hopefully the money will still be going to the charity.

waithorse · 01/03/2015 13:16

I knew this thread would be about this, before I opened it. YANBU.

JoanHickson · 01/03/2015 13:18

The parents have open fb pages and are busy replacing furniture and electrical appliances.

They never said it was going to Ronald McDonald Houses definitely iirc.

They said any "left over" after they bought the kid a diamond encrusted Silver Cross pram would be donated.

Agree the whole thing stinks though.

I think we all saw this coming.

Where did you see that Joan?

As far as I can see after a cursory glance the baby is back home and they've got lots of direct links to RMH so that people can donate directly.

LuckyLopez · 01/03/2015 13:27

Awful rude people. All of them.

JoanHickson · 01/03/2015 13:29

The page has been heavily edited and posts deleted. I will have a look for screen shots of them promising the charity will be in receipt of the publics money.

I will also try to find the disablist and racest comments.

OP posts:

Racist

Exactly the reason why I don't donate to stuff like that - you just don't know where your money's going.

thefirstmrsrochester · 01/03/2015 13:46

I had concerns about this from pretty much about day one. The travel/medical insurer paid out iirc, meaning everything raised is now 'left over'. None of the money should be being used to purchase furniture or baby items. The baby was early, not a bolt from the blue so presumably they were going to have to kit out the house/baby anyway? YANBU, the public have been duped. And the admin of the page is an utter arsehole.

DancingDays · 01/03/2015 13:46

Surely he has a moral obligation to show where the money went, he's the person that's been collecting the money.

Also this 13K that's refered to, that doesn't include the money that went direct to her paypal or the money collected in the Gym. I think PayPal was around 5k so I think they are actually sitting on 20k ish of donated money.

People on the page were promised information about the money going to the real charity and that hasn't happened. With the TM interview not mentioning the public donations and silence on the page I think they are hoping it's all forgotten about.

Has it gone from facebook? I can't find it.

scousadelic · 01/03/2015 13:54

Disgusting money-grabbers if they don't donate

This was so obviously what was going to happen from the outset, that it's hard to have sympathy for anyone misguided enough to have donated. Perhaps a valuable life lesson for the overly kind hearted

helenthemadex · 01/03/2015 14:20

I guess the issue is that the page was set up to pay for medical fees, there as nothing at all said about what would happen if the money wasnt needed for fees, but surely if they later said that the money would be donated then they have a moral obligation to do that and not spend money on themselves

it all leaves a very nasty taste
