Which means that some people before you can't get anywhere to sit. Happened today in Waitrose where the naice people should kmow better. Do you think people should wait until they have their food before getting a table or Aibu. Talking about YOU lady with the red shoes in malvern today

This is probably one of the most controversial topics on mumsnet along with parent and child parking spaces. YANBU IMO but lots of people will disagree with us!

If I have nowhere to sit in a cafe then id just go elsewhere. So it makes sense to secure the table before purchasing the food. Also, if I go to a restaurant, they dont make me wait at the bar til my food is ready to be served.

I would sit while my DH queued because I have a hidden disability. So from my perspective YABU.

Oh Christ, not this one again.

Literally have no feelings on this at all, cannot believe it's so controversial.

Chill out everyone

YABU, in my opinion, what's the point in queuing and ordering to find you can't sit down with what you have?

I agree with think. And if I was on my own and it didn't look like I would get a table I would just go somewhere else.

What's the point of every one in the party queuing up? Especially if it's a family with children one person can get the kids sat down while the other orders.

I really don't see the problem!

No point getting food if you don't have a table.

I wouldn't buy food if their was no-where to sit. Seems common sense to secure seating 1st

I do this. I don't really care if I offend people if I'm honest.

I'll get a table in a cafe/pub as soon as I can. If I'm alone (or when the dc were younger) this meant waiting until I'd been served.

If I'm with someone else, or now the dc are old enough to be left at a table, someone stays on the table and the other queues. It's just good sense.

I couldnt stand up for more than a few minutes when I was recovering from an ankle reconstruction. I'm not disabled, but certainly couldn't have stood in a queue when I first started to weight bear again if my partner/friend was getting our orders. Mind you, I'd have no problem sharing a table with strangers either....

well, twice recently have come across people in the supermarket working in pairs, one "reserving" the till while the other one does the shopping. VERY aggressive they were too, in both cases.

YABU first come.first served (and seated)

Report
Redglitter · 14/02/2015 23:35

I'm guilty of this since the time my mum and I wandered around a cafe with rapidly cooling food and coffee trying unsuccessfully to get a seat

Maybe you should have addressed the issue with 'YOU lady with the red shoes in malvern today' if you feel so strongly about her.

Its singlist and evil, pure evil like in Time Bandits.

hijk, I think supermarkets are very different. I'd be a bit Shock if I came across that.

Cafes though, I reserve seats all the time. Just makes sense.

Only go to places with table service, that solves the problem.

Report
merrymouse · 14/02/2015 23:45

I think its odd to do that in a supermarket as IME the queues move fairly quickly. (Although some people might have a specific reason for not being able to wait).

I don't see anything wrong with it , we do it when necessary. It's just common sense - why would I queue up to buy food / drinks only to risk having nowhere to sit when I have been served? Then I either have to stand up or perch awkwardly somewhere and rush my lunch / beverage because I'm not comfortable or wait for a seat to become free while my purchases go cold!

Sorry, if you've got someone to bag a table then do it! If you don't like it then tough.

I find it hard to believe that anyone has never done this tbh.

Have you never been out to lunch with a group of people?

We went to mc Donald's today. Me, dh, dc and my sister. 5 of us.

There were two or three free tables when we went in but plenty in the queue too.

Op...would you seriously all queue up? 5 people up there? Drag the dc up to wait in the queue too, all with your costs still on, carrying your bags etc?
Ignoring the couple of empty tables.

My arse you would. Even in waitrose Grin

Ever since I was a nipper I was asked to get a table while my mum queued up makes absolutely perfect sense who wants to stand about with potentially hot food and have nowhere to sit and eat it????

Report
FishWithABicycle · 14/02/2015 23:47

I also wouldn't buy food if I wasn't sure of getting a seat. Perfectly normal to secure a table first. If I'm on my own I'll bagzee a table with bags/coats before queuing or go elsewhere to find somewhere that I can be sure will seat me.

Report
Samcro · 14/02/2015 23:48

that is why people have children, they bags tables and when older carry the shopping.
