Hi, i'm 60 and on benefits now due to ill health. I've just received a 20,000 inheritance which means I no longer qualify for benefits. It's the first time in my life I've ever had any money, even when I worked. Everything in house was secondhand to me when I got it, e.g the three piece suite, secondhand and I've had it over 30 years and it's all broken, you can't sit on it. I have to sit on my bed which isn't that much more comfortablr. Everything needs replacing and decorating. This was my one and only chance to get my house improved ready for my old age. Now I will have to use it to live on and account for every penny spent when I have to reapply for benefit, otherwise its deprivation of capital. Don't want to be a whinger but my parents would turn in their graves, it was supposed to be a cushion for my old age. I better duck from all the people that will call me a benefit scrounger.... It's just hard becausr the rest of my brothers and sisters are retired and get to keep the money. I feel better for having a rant anyway.
