AIBU?

To shower twice a week

This post is perhaps more about hair washing than anything else.

I used to be a staunch shower-every-morning sort of person, including hair wash and blow dry. However, recent events meant I left it two days and my hair was so glossy and gleaming after I washed it that I'm keen to try again!

I'm not a particularly active person and don't get very sweaty but will freshen up particularly "smelly" areas Grin

Is this where madness lies ... Or does anybody else shower fairly infrequently? Both my parents were of the once a week persuasion!

Buy a shower cap?

AmserGwin · 27/01/2015 16:16

You can still shower every day without washing your hair. Tie it up or put a shower cap on. I sometimes do this if I'm in a hurry. Literally takes a couple of minutes

IMeanReally · 27/01/2015 16:17

I shower every other or every third day. It takes too long and is too much work to do it more often.

However I suspect most of MN will probably flame you for daring to suggest less than daily showering is acceptable

onthematleavecountdown · 27/01/2015 16:18

I shower everyday but only wash hair 2-3 days a week. On non hair wash days I scrape hair into a bun and fiver with a shower cap. I've only been doing this for a few months but love it. My morning shower is now literally 3 mins.

bigbuttons · 27/01/2015 16:20

I try and only wash my hair twice a week. The more I wash it, the greasier it gets. I shower everyday though.

ZombieApocalypse · 27/01/2015 16:22

Shower every day, hair wash every other day, dry shampoo on the non-hair wash days.

Theboodythatrocked · 27/01/2015 16:22

I wish!! Right smelly bird me so need a bubbly bath every day.

As for my hair it's washed every day or I could use the grease for chips.

Envy you. Smile

Theboodythatrocked · 27/01/2015 16:23

Zombie is dry shampoo good? Not tried it.

TheWitTank · 27/01/2015 16:25

I do shower daily and also wash my hair because I go to the gym and get really, really sweaty- like dripping off my earlobes sweaty. I don't like washing my hair that much though - it looks much better the less I wash it. Better condition and shiny and thick.

Costacoffeeplease · 27/01/2015 16:27

I also shower every day but only wash my hair 2-3 times a week as it's really long. Without a hair wash it takes 5 mins tops - I couldn't be bothered faffing with a flannel for a stand up wash at the sink for the sake of a 5 min shower

Perfectlypurple · 27/01/2015 16:27

Shower or bath every day, wash hair 2 to 3 times a week. If I am not washing my hair I usually have a shallow bath instead of a shower.

5446 · 27/01/2015 16:29

I wash my hair every 3-4 days, but shower every day.

MrsKoala · 27/01/2015 16:30

I shower every third day and wash my hair. I can't shower and not wash my hair as the steam/humidity and sweat from my head make my hair too dirty - shower caps or tying it up do nothing to stop this. I have a sink wash and sometimes sit in the luke warm bath with ds.

YoniversityOfTheFurredAge · 27/01/2015 16:31

It depends on how sweaty you get and your hair type. If I don't wash my very fine hair for a couple of days, I look rank. If you're not active OP, you could probably get away with it at the moment, maybe not in summer though.

BackforGood · 27/01/2015 16:31

I think YANBU, but there's a lot of MNers who are completely OTT when this question comes up every now and then, and, often, once the first couple of posters express their disgust, then others tend to follow suit and anyone agreeing would feel intimitated so would move on without posting. As you say when we your parents were growing up, people had a bath at the weekend, to start clean and fresh for the next week. People didn't have showers in their houses.

GretnaGreen · 27/01/2015 16:32

I think two or three showers a week is fine if you're washing pits and bits daily. Some people may like to shower more often but I don't think it's filthy or unhealthy not to.

minimisemyshowers · 27/01/2015 16:34

Thanks.

I'm not keen on shower caps, as they leave a line on my head! Also, I have quite long, heavy hair and if I tie it up it retains a kink in it and looks messy. I also have yet to find a shower cap that doesn't let in water.

I was thinking of morning showers Monday and Thursday. It will be interesting to see how it pans out.

I think you could do this while the weather is cold, but you will probably want to shower more often when the weather is warmer. I shower and rinse and condition my hair every other day, but only use shampoo once a week or even ten days, as it is so dry.

SoonToBeMrsB · 27/01/2015 16:43

I couldn't live without dry shampoo. I have long-ish thick curly hair and trying to tame it every day after washing would be enough to drive me up the wall. I have a wash/shower every day but do my hair every other day, after the gym.

Delphine31 · 27/01/2015 16:50

I shower every other day. I have to use a thick eczema treatment after every shower which takes ages to apply and then leaves my skin greasy for hours. I actually feel cleaner on day two!

The fact I shower less than daily is not one I advertise loudly because people can be very judgy about it.

I've got lots of friends so I hope that means I don't smell!

hellsbellsmelons · 27/01/2015 16:53

as they leave a line on my head
Blimey - how long do you spend in the shower?
It only takes 2 minutes.
I got a great shower cap for the pound shop.
No marks and had it ages and still going strong.
Keeps my hair very dry.
I have to shower in the morning to wake me up and feel fresh for the day.
I only wash my hair every 3 days (OK sometimes 4)

MitchellMummy · 27/01/2015 16:54

Shower or bath twice daily. Hair wash every other day - but if I can't manage that then dry shampoo makes it last another day. I tie up my long hair - would rather have messy hair than go without the twice daily soaks!

Each to their own. As long as you're happy and you don't smell offensive it's no one else's business.

Crumblevision · 27/01/2015 16:56

YABU. I get that you have nice hair and are pleased with it but your nethers will need some attention. Shower cap for you Missy!

woodychip · 27/01/2015 16:57

It amazes me that this is the kind of thing people ask on a forum!
