He just thinks it was harmless. 'If you don't like it, don't look.' I'd like to educate him but I can't seem to find the words.

He's intelligent but can't seem to get this one.

Why not just express your feelings as you normally would?

I can't get the words. There are people here far more eloquent than me (usually!)

Wonder if he'd have been happy for you to do it. Or his mum.

I think he probably knows it was wrong.

Boobs arnt news!

It's a news paper not a lads mag

Time and place time and place.

Do you have children? If yes does he want his girl to think her contribution to world News are her tits?

If you have lads does he want them to see you as a woman portrayed by the fact you have tits? Is that news?

Not eloquent at all but just had the sane discussion with ds 23 and dds 15,14.

That was their view.

Is it news that women have tits? No

If he is intelligent and he has thought carefully on the subject I think you are wasting your time trying to convince him otherwise. You can tell him how you feel about it, but you can't persuade him to change his opinion.

I don't agree with him, but I can also see his point of view.

Report
Nicknacky · 20/01/2015 23:20

You might just have a difference of opinion where you won't agree! Not every couple has to think the same.

Report
slightlyworriednc · 20/01/2015 23:21

Well, why do you think it was wrong? If you don't know, then do you really think it's wrong, or are you just 'toeing the party line' with regards to feminism?
It can't be your opinion, can it, if you can't even explain it?

Report
RandomNPC · 20/01/2015 23:23

It's just his point of view, he's entitled to one! Personally, I was never bothered about it one way or the other.

everything that birdo83 says....say the opposite

I've noticed the campaigners really concentrate on the 'boobs are not news' aspect - that this has no place in a supposedly family newspaper.

My brother was of the 'is page 3 still going on?" and then 'it's harmless variety' but I talked him round.

I can't really remember what I said, but it was along the lines of I can't walk down the street topless, so why is it in a national newspaper? Seemed to convince him!

gotta laugh at op being faintly accused of "toeing the (feminism) party line" on AIBU Grin

Report
SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/01/2015 23:27

Because Page 3 says that the only reason for a woman to be in the paper is so men can gawk at her boobs - it belittles and denigrates the amazing things that women are doing in the world today - women are making news, they aren't just decorations for men's viewing pleasure!

Theboodythatrocked · 20/01/2015 23:29

He's not that intelligent really is he op? My kids have rationalised this one!

What does toeing the party line mean slightly what party?

Report
AnyFucker · 20/01/2015 23:31

the Raving Monster Lunatic Feminist Party, of course

don't be so dim Wink

It's laughably old fashioned too. How old is he op? My lads of 25,24 think it's for sad old wankers! Maybe tell him that

Report
DemelzaandRoss · 20/01/2015 23:34

Actually, the whole point of feminism is for equality. Maybe it is ok for women to choose what they want to do. If that entails topless modelling...fine...their choice.

Dp brought The Sun home from work today (he brings the papers home that his colleagues don't want because we use them to light our fire), I flipped it open to see a big photo of a young woman on P3 in black lacy lingerie (bra, knickers, suspenders and stockings), plus a few smaller, similar images. Apparently this young woman was posing in her own lingerie range.

It was basically P3, disguised as an advert for this womans lingerie range.

Here’s an anecdote for you. A couple of years ago, a non-UK publication very similar to the Sun did a feature on an organisation where I volunteered (working with mainly immigrant children and young people). The children were very excited to be in the newspaper so another volunteer and I bought several copies to give each of them one to take home. And then had to scuttle into the back room to remove several pages so that we wouldn’t be giving a bunch of ten-year-olds pin-ups to take home to their proud parents. I really, really resent having to do that.
