AIBU?

To consider leaving my job because they've built me my own office?

I deal with finance and there are undoubtedly times when a bit of peace and quiet to focus is a godsend, but having being used to working in the hub of all gossip a bustling office, god it's dull at times, being in a box on my own.

At least you can be naked from the waist down

Or have your own ice cream machine/candy floss machine

There is untapped potential in this....

Oh I'd hate to be in an office all on my own. I need the constant, relentless distractions to keep me going.

You're going to need one of those desk toys. Maybe several. Ping balls against each other and marvel at the kinetic energy - that'll be almost the same as human contact.

LadyLuck10 · 24/10/2014 22:10

I love having my own office. I can't do this open plan style nowadays.

dogscatsandbabies · 24/10/2014 22:33

Would love it. Bloody sick of being ridiculed for verbally assaulting the phone, computer, fucking sticky desk drawer. At least you can shout and swear at inanimate objects in peace.

squoosh · 24/10/2014 22:39

Have they built the office around you without putting a door in?

BlinkAndMiss · 24/10/2014 22:43

YABU I'd love it.

eurochick · 24/10/2014 22:46

I love having my own office. You can MN with abandon when quiet and book your smear test without having to do it in a corridor, call the mortgage people without the whole office earwigging and so on.

Timeforabiscuit · 24/10/2014 22:46

Can you be all sparkly and start a hotdesking thing?

I'd love a bit of quiet some times

But alone
In the box....

How long would it be until someone discovered you if you died at your desk Wink?

Purplepoodle · 24/10/2014 22:52

Radio perhaps? Tv on music channel?

rubyflipper · 24/10/2014 22:54

I love having my own office. I can pluck my eyebrows in peace there. Grin

swivel chair dance practice
singing REALLY loudly

ADishBestEatenCold · 24/10/2014 23:09

Own office, own bathroom, own (smallish) conference/meeting room, and miniscule 'kitchen' for coffee machine.

No wonder I get lonely.

DraaaamaghAlpacaaaagh · 24/10/2014 23:09

I'm in the same situation, OP. Just moved out of a busy main office into my own space. It's too quiet & I don't think I like it. I'm worried I'll miss out on all the gossip.

The only upside is that I've got away from my annoying colleague who mutters to herself all day. One day I even heard her grumbling away to herself about something I'd done, totally oblivious to the fact that I could hear her Grin

FoxgloveFairy · 25/10/2014 00:17

I has huge untalled potential! You can practice belly dancing. Keep your pet elephant in the corner ( okay, maybe that would get found out when it trumpeted, but worth a try!). All sorts of secret stuff.

FoxgloveFairy · 25/10/2014 00:19

Untapped, not untailed!

PhaedraIsMyName · 25/10/2014 01:17

Foxglove I'm impressed that when you corrected the phone auto correct your phone auto corrected the original wrong word to a different wrong word.

GarlicOctopus · 25/10/2014 01:25

Dish, your office sounds bigger than my new flat Grin I have a kitchen but could easily make do with a coffee machine and an expense account. Assuming your heating works, do you fancy a swap?

Damn autocorrect!

ADishBestEatenCold · 25/10/2014 11:04

"Dish, your office sounds bigger than my new flat"

Sounds rather grand, doesn't it. There is just quite a lot of space available.

Excellent, Dish. You can host salsa classes. Or learn circus skills (in your tea break, of course.)

Gruntfuttock · 25/10/2014 11:30

"Have they built the office around you without putting a door in?"

I do hope not. I really hate it when that happens. Sad

nachohousekeeper · 25/10/2014 11:31

I just moved from a tiny office on the main corridor. I used to be able to hear everything going on in reception and people would constantly stop by for a whinge chat.

Now I'm further away from the action in a much bigger room. I am loving the peace and quiet plus I've just got a lovely coffee machine. Like others have said, lots of potential to MN undetected. I stick the radio on if it's too quiet.
