AIBU?

To be worried about doing the school run tomorrow morning in my new manual car after driving an automatic for 9 years?

I just did a short drive for the first time and all I can say is thank fuck there was not much traffic about Shock. I kept stalling the bloody thing and was crapping myself. I am dreading driving it in the hell that is rush hour tomorrow with 4DC in the car in a town with roundabout every 10 frigging metres!

I thought I was a fairly competent driver and have been driving for almost 20 years but I am obviously crap.

Aaarrrggghhh.

You can't. Sorry, I know that's a bloody nightmare but you can't drive your DC around thinking and feeling like this. More practice is needed. Maybe a lesson or two in a manual vehicle.

Do you absolutely have to take the car?

I actually cried the first time I drove my manual after nearly a decade in automatics. The next day I was fine, so what if you stall?

I'm an automatic driver but occasionally have to drive a manual for work, I feel like this too and avoid it when I can! It's a bit late I suppose but why didn't you get another automatic?! Anyway I would definitely recommend having a couple of refresher lessons.

You're most likely to stall when you're trying to stop anyway :)

Occasionally when back in my manual after driving DH's auto I forget at the first stop on our estate to whack the clutch in. The juddering usually reminds me. I never forget twice.
Get the dc to chant 'clutch' at you.

You'll be fine just remember go down in gear with speed and keep your bite, keep your bite, keep your bite, don't try and pull out in anything other than first (I had a diesel or two that pulled out in second but it's rare), leave ten mins earlier and chill :) Good luck x

I wouldn't worry, you have 4DC's so you have probably coped with worse more stressful situations.

Anyway, as baffled says you'll probably stall when you mean to stop, its not like the break has swapped place with the accelerator or anything. You'll be fine!

Would you consider having a few lessons just to remind you?

Take the bus tomorrow

It seems that you could do with a bit more practise before you venture into the rush hour school run. That would be a safer option for you, your children and all around you wouldn't it?
Maybe even a couple of refresher lessons.
