To expect 1-1 at work to be just that?

Just received 3 typed 1-1's from typist in our office. My manager conducted the 1-1's but has got typist to type them up for me to agree, sign and return.

AIBU to feel a bit aggrieved that these meetings which discussed personal (non work related) issues are privy to another person?

Some issues are work related but are also, to my mind, private and confidential i.e bullying from a previous manager which has had to involve the union.

Other issues are very personal relating to my son who has a disability.

Please give me some perspective. AIBU or not.

If it's that personal can you ask your manager not to record it in the notes?

I don't think you are being unreasonable. Why couldn't the manager have typed them up - or given them to you to type up and him/her check and sign them? I don't think 1-to-1's are totally confidential e.g. your manager may need advice from HR on some of the issues but that's different from giving the information to an immediate work colleague who had no real reason to be involved.

Thanks Bette. Thing is typist in question loves a drama and came over 2 mins after sending said 1-1's to 'check I received them'.

YANBU. Your 1:1 should be a confidential document between you, your manager and HR. You colleague shouldn't have typed them up. Do you have a HR department?

What do you mean by typist? Very few workplaces have typists now. Do you actually mean secretary or PA? If so, YABU. That's what they do.

No. It's a typist Anne. We have a pool of typists to type our letters, docs etc and she's used them.

Does the typist work with/for your manager? Is she/he a colleague?

She types for all of us in the team. She's not a PA or secretary.

Your manager shouldn't have used a typing pool for a confidential document. Don't sign the paperwork. Complain to HR and your manager. Your confidential and personal information has been shared without your consent.

It's usual in our post everyone has 1-1 at least every month or 6 weeks. It's like supervision of cases plus a but of personal stuff (esp with me as I've had some time off last year due to son who has disability)

Thanks sunbathing. I work for a very large company and have had lots of issues. To cut a very long story short I've involved union due to them not sticking to company policy on lots of issues. Past manager discriminated against me due to sons disability (although I have suspected at the bidding of her manager - who is now my new manager).

I know I could take issue with them over lots of issues but I'm tired and weary. Union are 'up for a fight' as it were but I'm not sure if that's in my best interests. It's a very stay quiet and you'll be ok kind of place.

A typist, in this day and age? Really? I thought it was a decade or more since everyone but the biggest of big wigs typed on their own PC, and the big wigs have PA's, who might know a lot, but has a level of confidentiality toward boss.

I agree, you should have typed up the notes, or an HR person.
