sharing "I love my child" pictures on fb is not loving your child

Mil and dh had a few words 4 weeks back. It's been building up and part of it was mil never phones him. Hasn't called for 3 years. He calls her but is fed up of it being one way. We never get invited (they live a fair distance) so only visit when really we've invited ourselves. Mil regularly posts on fb about how much she misses our dc and dh and shares those stupid "my son will always have my heart" type messages/photos.
Since their last conversation where mil cried about missing dc and dh said he was upset she never calls and she could always call dc for a chat or Skype, mil still hasn't called but is posting more and more of these meaningless fb things. Just wish she'd spend the time talking to her son. When he does call she doesn't even ask how he is.
Sorry, needed a rant. Feel bad for dh. He gets more actual attention from my parents. Sad

This is how your FB likes are helping people.

Tell her FB love which requires no effort, is not real love.

I deleted Facebook. It took time away from my son.

I use it to share photos with family and friends and funny things dc do or to ask for help ie, has anyone got an airbed we can borrow tonight as ours appears to have a hole - but I am only visible to friends and family!

I totally understand and sympathise. Before I had children DM was always moaning about wanting/needing grandchildren but since they were born she has come to visit once (she lives in the states but still) and hasn't bothered to install Skype.
When she posts things on fb about loving/missing grandchildren I roll my eyes. Unfortunately she doesn't even really know them.

I do hate the image crafting that goes on on facebook. It can be incredubly narcissistic, I just hide people that consistently annoy me.

MIL went on and on that we needed to have a baby - she already had 5 GC, who are 11- 16 years older than ds. They have spend approx 7 hours alone with him in 8.5 years, and now they spend 6 months a year away, and may phone dh once in each 3 month block, no postcards/skype/emails for ds at all. When at home, if dh doesn't phone them, they may call once a month.
But its OK as they can see what dh is doing on FB Hmm
