AIBU?

to be grossed out by this hen do idea?

So a friend is getting married in July and I asked her if she knew what she wanted to do for her hen do.

She wants to hire a hot tub for the weekend and have lots of people over to her house.

The price she told me I'm guessing it will be standard size so 8/10 people max, so I'm also guessing she will have people over in groups.

Aibu to think it's rather gross and possibly awkward?

You just know that someone will probably pee in it and with it being outside it'll have all grass in it after a few hours.

I have no idea about the grass thing but - even if it's got grass in it - grass isn't gross.

The peeing thing - fuxake. What sort of friendship group do you hang out in that it's normal to wee in hot tubs??? It has NEVER occurred to me.

Have you never been swimming lol

You wouldn't get me in one although, surely, none would wee in it!

we had one when we stayed at Center Parcs with a bunch of 14 year olds. They loved it, especially when it was dark.

Do swim in public baths or the sea? Sounds like a nice idea, far more reasonable than all the mega expensive week long events that some people plan. Besides you don't actually have to get it in, surly it's a hot tub themed party in reality.

I was steeling myself for a hair curling thread about three day group orgies in Margate and all kinds of orifice related escapades.

I feel let down OP that it's just a hot tub causing you so much distress. Let DOWN I tell you.

The pee is unlikely. The grass isn't gross. I wouldn't fancy it as a fun communal activity, though.

I am guessing it will be a kind of outdoor party with chance to use hot tub and drink lots of wine. It will be a girls night in really and I can think of worse hen do ideas that are more expensive and also more cringe worthy. You won't be obliged to sit in hot tub which is after all mini swimming pool.

Well I wouldn't do it myself and I'm sure my friends wouldn't.

But friend is a person who likes to think she has millions of friends, so would invite everyone from her sister, to her sisters boyfriends cousins best friend.

Also her stb husband is rather immature and would definitely do gross things in there.

It's not a hot tub themed party - you will be expected to get in said hot tub.

"No thank you, not for me, and I haven't brought my swimming things. Do you want me to take a photo of you all?"

End of.

Would work if I didn't live a 3 minute drive away.

A heavy period seems the best excuse, I'm guessing you're a mum too? well unfortunately due to the birth of your dc tampons aren't advised during heavy periods. Job done.

I think it sounds grand. A friend did this for hers - rented a cabin witg a hot tub, filled the kitchen full of prosecco and spirits andhired a Butler In The Buff to ensure no glasses were ever empty .

Hot tubs are exwllent, especially in the winter, when snowing and up a mountain in Austria with a tonne of Jaegermesiter, sigh......

I was expecting some sort of naked orgy on Clacton seafront plan here and instead, discover the fairly mild suggestion of sharing a hot tub!

I don't think the idea is gross at all although I realise that not everyone would put sharing a hot tub high up their list of essential stuff to do. If you are prepared to swim in public pools then I can't see what dire additional consequences are likely to occur from sharing a hot tub with a bunch of women. Also, why should they want to piss in it? Only basking in a pool of piss is hardly going to be great for anyone. Including the pisser!

If you can't bear to get into the hot tub then you say so. But it does strike me that your horrified response to the idea is somewhat OTT.

I will confess that male friends of ours had a hot tub that I always declined to share. But that's because they regularly hosted what are best described as rather "excitable" tub parties with their gentlemen friends and tended not to change the water often enough.

I find it odd that you think it will automatically get peed in.

If that's what she wants to do then I think it's a nice idea. Much better to have something going on at home than trying to get your friends to spend a fortune on an 'activity' they have no interest in or go abroad.

If it's hired from a company it will have the right chemicals in it to kill any germs, and while I'm not really a fan of home hot tubs partly because of the chemicals, I really don't think it's that much to ask of your friends for a hen night.

A friend of mine has a hot tub in her garden. The children swam in it the other day. It had a strong (though no worse than a swimming pool) smell of chlorine and the water looked fine and clear.

If your friend is just hiring it, I am sure it isn't going to get all that dirty in one weekend and if it is chlorinated which I am sure a hired one would be, there won't be a problem even in the hopefully highly unlikely event that a grown adult does have a pee in it.

I think it sounds fun (and was also expecting something a lot more racy from your thread title).

Strange how so many people are against hot tub parties on this thread.

I think people on MN will take an instant like or dislike depending on the wording of your OP.

And most people will follow what the first few posts say.

I think the difference is that that was a suggestion of a mixed party - and anyway more people were saying they wouldn't want to go in a hot tub with their friends' partners than that they thought it was icky. A lot of them were suggesting making it a girls' do.

I think a hot tub party is a good idea for a hen do actually but can see how if it's not just friends but all and sundry you'd rather not.

Either decline, or plead time of the month.

Have you ever considered that if this (wild generalisation) were the case, it might be that "most people" might actually have a point?

I was expecting things such as

Give a stranger a bj...

Not some mundane hottub angst...

YABU!

Agree with you op, hot tubs are gross. Unhygienic, bubbling baths of bacteria. If there were only 4/6 of you, nice new water, buf butler, then maybe.
Friends of mine have a hot tub, I'm running out of excuses not to join them in it...
