AIBU?

To request replacement straw because a dog has pooed in it?

Exactly that. The yard where I keep my horse has a no dog policy - except for the yard owners dogs. She has two. I have twice seen one of them poo-ing in my (just mucked out) stable which made me a bit Hmm But today I was grabbing sections of straw and noticed that it felt a bit wet. When I sniffed the straw - it was DISGUSTING and then I noticed that I had dog poo all over my hands! AngryAngryAngryAngryAngry

Obviously I am now reluctant to touch the stuff - so AIBU to request that it be taken out and replaced? It's compulsory to buy hay and straw from the yard so they do all the delivering.

YANBU, I would definitely ask for her to replace it. You are paying her (quite handsomely I imagine) to provide the straw and she is under an obligation to ensure it is clean and hygienic for your horse.

She needs to keep a better eye on her dogs (and pick up their shit).

For a second, I thought you were referring to a straw that you would drink from! You would definitely NBU in that case!

I agree though, she should replace the straw. YANBU.

Dog shit on your hands!

The owners lack of supervision of her dogs is disgusting!

New clean straw and an apology at the very least!

Absolutely. My yard is no dogs (apart from mine). I only let my dog on the yard when the horses are all out grazing and he certainly never poos in the stables. He does eat a fair bit of horse poo himself though...

Yanbu. However as most people have been on yards will know chances are your yard owner will think yabvu indeed Wink. Duno what it is about horses that seems to attract the extremely batty but my very "normal" yard owner is worth her weight in gold!!

I spoke to someone else about it and she said yes, it's an acknowledged problem and others have complained. The yard cats are currently pooing in her hay!!! There are two dogs and only one is a problem, but she has full run of the yard day and night. I suppose I just have to be extra vigilant about her going into my stable, but the straw - there's literally nothing I can do. Sorry to drip feed but forgot to say that ym and I really don't get on because she's a selfish hypocritical irritating arse of a woman so I'm torn between wanting to complain and being hesitant in case it causes further problems....

Totally sympathise OP you'd YM sounds like mine. I gave my horse up for loan recently because I'm ttc and one reason was stress due to livery yard being awful

I think most people who have kept horses at livery yards know that complaining about this could get you your notice to leave the yard.
So, if this is your pile of straw on a pallet you could buy yourself a tarp quite cheaply and cover it, tying it down in a few places to keep it secure. If it's communal yard straw there's nothing you can do.
You can keep your stable door closed at all times to avoid the dog getting in the stable.
Or if the YO is such a pain, you could look for somewhere else.
I hope your hay doesn't get the same treatment!
