AIBU?

To wonder what sort of ^spanner^ of an oven designer

Designs an oven with oven shelves that tip if you pull them out more than 5mm pouring molten lasagna all over your hand.

My old oven did not do this.

Surely oven shelves should be designed to be pulled out and stay vaguely horizontal? Just as a basic design funtion

Ditto on the laptop that got put in a drawer and ignored for a month after the horror of windows 8.

Hi Rhonda :)

Yes moved into a lovely new house with a stupid oven Grin

How are you x

Pausing - your laptop would get on well with my oven. They both have being shiny and useless in common

Must be the same designer that made my fridge freezer so you can't shut the door if bottles are laying on the shelf.

Maybe you should both collude and use the laptop to help prop up the oven shelf to avoid molten lava experiences?

(unhelpful)

Pausing - could you not wipe the hard drive and reinstall? I've back installed many a time. Last time was for windows 8....

Are the shelves fitted correctly?

Perhaps the last owners with numbnuts like the ones in our house before we came here, who balanced stuff rather than fixing it to walls etc.

I know you've probably checked, but are the shelves between 2 rails? I've burnt myself on my oven after dh put a shelf I (once) cleaned back on top of a set of rails instead of inbetween.

If not you're buggered, best just buy some new teflon coated arms now!

(The bugger has a new install. Lack of keyboard shortcuts is intentional. Apparently.)

Add it to my kitchen - with the dishwasher that has a jolly trill beeping alarm that goes off every ten minutes until you open the door. That no one can work out how to turn off.

It never struck me before that anyone would have a dish emergency, and need an alarm to tell me I could get immediate access to a clean fork.

I had always assumed you'd wash the one you'd wanted in the sink, or get another from the drawer. Hmm

I am GOOD.

Shiny new job which I am enjoying so far, decorating the house, life is good.

Same old oven here though.

Have you tried putting the shelves in the other way not helpful

Report
PausingFlatly · 26/08/2014 21:12

Speak not to me off beeping kitchen devices.

The most recent washing machine was selected solely on the criterion that the beep could be switched off.

And what's that all about anyway? When did that happen - beeping washing machines? Whhhyyyyyyy?

off was a Freudian slip at the thought of beeping...

Ah feck Blush

I had put the shelf on top instead of in properly Blush

Sincere apologies to the perfectly non-spannerish oven designer

Do you live in a Disney movie Self?

haha no

I have a friend who apparently has the same brand of washer as my oven. I was on the phone to her and heard it playing and said, that must be an LG!

Ooh do the LG ovens play a tune as well?

Love my LG washer/dryer Grin

My old oven had metal knobs on the front, which meant that if you had the main oven on for longer than 20 minutes or so they got too hot to turn it off again with your bare hands Hmm I challenge anyone to come up with a more spannerish oven design flaw than that!

I hate pans whose handles get hot.

That is spannery of the highest order.

I'm looking at you Morphy Spannerhandles Richards

Haha cat! My pot handles heat up.

Worst offender is my big cast iron le creuset casserole. The handle on Thr lid is black. When I was young my mum had pots with black handles on their lids, which were plastic and didn't heat up.

How many times have I gone to grab that bastard and had to spend ten minutes with my hand under the cold tap?

The new (cheap) oven the (con artist) builder "installed" after we were flooded was not only not screwed in so the first time I opened it it bloody slid out the unit. But is so cheap the handle gets hot when it's on so you can't open it anyway!!
