So my younger brother (18) has tasks to do in return for lifts here and there. One of these is to cut the lawn. He hasn't done the front one in a good few months and it looked like a bit of a jungle. We all refused to do it as it's DBs job and it was up to him to get it done even though the longer he left it the harder it'd be.

Well yesterday we were all out and someone appears to have snuck in and done the front lawn! AIBU to find this really funny?
No one ever mentioned to us that they wanted it done or anything. I would understand if people didn't like it much but they could have said something rather than sneak in and do it themselves!

In one of the houses we lived in we had an open lawn at the front of our house we shared with our neighbours. DH was away a lot and I was too bloody lazy to do it. At first our neighbours only did the bit in front of their house. I think that they believed they would shame us into doing our patch (they obviously didn't know me very well). After a while they started making little hints about how messy it looked which I choose to ignore. The neighbour eventually started mowing are bit as well but when I would say thank you for mowing the lawn he would always deny doing it. Despite of the fact that would watch him as he mowed the lawn.

Your db should pay it forward and secretly mow someone else's lawn for them. Then they could do the same.

Ive heard of this before. My parents live in a village that gets nominated towards Britain in Bloom. They have told me that there is someone who will secretly mow lawns just before judging, but they dont know who it is. They are good at gardening though so do theirs themselves. Wish someone would do mine.

Bifauxnen, I love the idea of starting some sort of shared mowing scheme where a random member does your lawn each week and you have to do someone elses'!

DB is a lazy arse and so he's extremely happy it's been done (much to my annoyance as it's his job, but I'll come up with some other chore for him!)

Of course it's a bit embarrassing but at the same time it's just grass. It's not like we'd put old washing machines and fridges out there to rot. I sort of see it as I don't mind long grass in the slightest. But I don't really like the little woodland animals that people put out all over their lawn, that doesn't mean I'm going to go out and steal them away 'cause I don't like the sight of them. AND if I did feel that way I'd actually speak to the person first rather than sneak about.

It is quite fun trying to work out who it was! I doubt they'll own up either though, Muskey!

No it didn't tbh...I just felt that he was doing the grass anyway so why not do all of it. Where we lived was prone to very heavy snow the neighbours would only clear their path to the front door DH and I would clear both drive ways and all the paths leading from the houses because it helped everyone.

How awful. I don't think i could look my neighbours in the eye! My back garden i don't mind so much, but i think its a bit inconsiderate to make the street look messy.

Having said that, DH is very good at keeping on top of it. But we live on a new estate so everyone is pretty house proud.

Our neighbours did our grass last week while we we're away

We know it was them as they said they would as we were leaving.

I'm not embarassed - just wish I'd left the bolt off the back gate so they could've done that too

My neighbour has been cutting my hedge for the past year. To be fair I used to do his when his elderly mother lived there. I often prune a very overhanging rose bush for my neighbour. They must know it's me as I have often asked if I can tidy it up a but as it's quite hazardous when walking past on the pavement.

My ex inlaws used to live in a village where there were rules on how long your front lawn could be and what plants you were allowed to put in - batshit!

Seems 50/50 whether people would be embarrassed.

TBH, I think if I lived at my own place, and thus it was my responsibility, it would have been done. It's only been left as it's my DB's job.
