Booked a taxi today gave the address and postcode. It was a 'double' address so had a number and development address then the road it was on, town and postcode.
The driver couldn't find it. He got quite irate with me.
I explained I had given the full address or what I thought was the full address he said there should have been a number for the road as well as the house number as the development would have been built on a plot number.
I don't usually go to big houses so didn't know this.
He was really horrible kept saying he couldn't drive around all day asking repeatedly for the address and postcode and tutting and sighing.

It turned out a lorry was parked across the sign saying the name of the development but really I'd have thought he should have known where it was its not a very new development and has been there a few years and I thought drivers were meant to know the area they work in?
He was driving quite fast and erratically and was clearly very agitated with me but it wasn't my fault was it?

I got home and burst into tears

I think you should complain to the taxi company he works for about:

a) the fact that they sent a driver who does not know his way around

b) his rude attitude

Make it clear you will be unwilling to use this firm again if this is an example of the service they provide.

So it was like:

Flat 15 at the Jamworks
Market Street
Big Town
BS 1HT?

And he wanted to know what number Market Street that the Jamworks was on?

Yes, he should have know this as you say it was an established development. He was also rude. But it's over with now - don't let it continue to upset you.

Yeah he's a knob. He should have a sat nav too.

He did have a sat nav ! He kept ranting about bad reception and saying it wasn't working. The atmosphere was horrible. Poor dd was trying to phone her friend whose house it was but she wasn't answering, the driver was irate saying to phone again and I felt really intimidated.

He was very rude, complain to his company. It's their job to know all these finer details.

And ring your Trading Standards if the company doesn't apologise profusely. Contact your local council and ask for the licensing department too... he shouldn't have a license if he is going to intimidate his passengers.

Complain to the company, they take it seriously. I complained about a controller who had shut up shop near midnight and was going home and he told me to bugger off.. I had no phone and had to walk him on my own. I rang up and complained and later on the council rang me back out of the blue to get all the details. I was impressed they took it seriously.

Complain.

Not quite the same, but I was in a town I didn't know a week ago, gave the driver the street name and number and he said fine, then after he started moving/started the metre asked me for directions. Hmm

I pointed out 1) he had satnav and 2) the reason I was taking a taxi was because I had no clue where I was going (ok, not very bright as he couldn've driven me miles and charged me, but ...). I made him let me get out as we'd gone all of twenty yards, and he had the cheek to ask for the 2.50 initial charge! No fucking chance.

I will call them now and complain. It really upset me as he was being an absolute idiot.

I half wondered as he was so irate if I had actually done something wrong but not having what he considered the 'proper' address he made me so uncomfortable.

Some people are just arseholes aren't they!

I have had a similar issue to this. I called trying to book a taxi home from a friends apartment.

I gave the name of the block of apartments, let's call it Radcliffe House, then the name of the road it is on. Actually local to the taxi office, only about 15 minutes walk, 5 minutes drive.

Apparently unless I gave them a property number they wouldn't come! I tried to give other info like nearby shops, the name of the pub afacing, but the phone operator hung up on me!

As it was still a new development there was a sales office still open on site, I checked with somebody there who confirmed the block has a name, not a number!
