AIBU?

To get upset when watching Frozen

GinIceAndASlice · 19/08/2014 18:59

Took dd who is 3 to see sing-a-long Frozen as she adores the film and had never been to the cinema before.

To my embarrassment I found myself blubbing when their parents died and Elsa told Ana to go away!

Surely I can't be the only one?

I ALWAYS cry at that part!

I always get emotional at the cinema and it doesn't matter what we're watching!

Am I only i one who does not like ana. Two minutes after meeting someone she gets engaged. As for elsa I know she has to cope with her freezing issue but come on she's a spoilt brat to her sister. (Watched this film too many times....can we build a snowman...).

Are me and DD the only ones who don't like frozen?

Feel so left out!

I couldn't watch it at a cinema. I'd be a wreck! I blubbed my way through the end of toy story 3 too where he grew out of the toys / symbolic for his childhood and gave them away to the little toddler...

sob sob sob

saddest film for a parent of a pre teen EVER.

I wasn't that impressed the first time I watched it...but damn the tunes are catchy! It's Dds first Disney crush, so it may have been on in the background a couple hundred dozen times whilst I make the tea. Then you find yourself humming....it's a slippery slope.

Even my 14 mo twins sing "goooooooo" and wave their hands...Dts has perfected his sweep and jazz hands

I cried at the whole thing. I love my sister to death and the idea of not having a relationship, and sister love being the strongest, really got to me.

I get mad at the dad. Fear is your enemy = make daughter terrified she is going to accidentally hurt/kill everyone and highlight her need to live in fear of others finding out.

Me too karron.

It's all about repressing who you are and the loneliness it causes.

I hate all the conceal/ don't feel stuff. Bloody love your daughter for who she is not make her scared witless.

I suppose the final message is about being true to yourself and sisterly love being strong...but they still feel the need to sneak in a kiss with Kristoph at the end which was unnecessary IMO.

Anyhow at least I'm not the only crier....but don't get me started on up, I was having IVF when I howled my way through that one!

Dd2, age 8, saw it once and said it was stupid. Whew!

Report
expatinscotland · 19/08/2014 20:25

I never saw it, but Dd2 just said it was ridiculous and, 'People don't come back from the dead. That's a terrible thing to have children believe.'

Its a very frustrating film because, even before their untimely death, the parents didnt help her learn to control her "power".
I know its only a kids' cartoon but i find it hard to get past that bit.
The songs are great. I do well up when the parents die and when she starts singing "let it go"

We saw the trailer on TV... you know the snowman Olaf etc... so DS really wanted to go and see the film (so did DH!). Well at the cinema (DH at work so not with us), 2 minutes in I thought SHIT... this is a girls sort of film... no sign of the snowman... just 2 girls and loads of singing... but hey ho DS loved it. I cried LOADS. We got the DVD... DS(8) watched it loads at the time. Not for ages though. He'd never go to the sing-a-long (though I laughingly suggested it the other day). I want to get the CD to play in the car! LET IT GO, LET IT GO.... (and I'm not far from 50!).

'Let it go' is a fantastic piece of film and music; having very controlling but emotionally neglectful parents, I get the significance of being locked in a room and not allowed to be yourself.

I also get the point about the parents' action giving the sisters different experiences, which they somehow have to find the way through (Elsa cannot actually let it go because the damage which comes from her not learning to be herself). So, the bad parenting choices are actually integral to the story, I think.

Fanfeckintastic - you can't count DS and I in on that front.

Bought the DVD, it got given away the day after. Most annoying film we have ever watched. Crap music, appalling singing and a dire storyline.

My poor Nephew loves it, but I have banned him from bringing his CD here and singing any of the songs - it annoys me that much.

I have to admit that the 'Let it go' fart version that has been doing the rounds on FB is quite amusing.
