To hate the 'fresh water' swimming pool

Admit it was the only thing I was really worried about when I viewed online. But thought it would be oK

It's really manky and slimy and the side are all green and slimy.
So disappointed and after one try of it I definately won't be back in during this holiday.

Have discovered there is another 'normal' pool at the complex which. Seems to be reserved for a property which is unoccupied

Would it be unreasonable to request them to allow us to use the normal swimming pool?

No it wouldn't be! Also not unreasonable to demand they clean the freshwater one. Are they meant to be slimy? How is it "fed"? Or is it just stagnant water in a pool?

Is it a "natural" swimming pool? i.e. chemical free and filtered by plants and special bacterial filters or is it just not cleaned properly?

Freshwater pools can be gorgeous to swim in, we have one and it's like swimming in mineral water. The water is crystal clear and sparkly and feels lovely on your skin and it's not drying unlike salt or chlorine pools. However, the water is treated by a UV system that needs to be maintained weekly. Ask for someone to come and take care of it and to use the other pool in the meantime.

Sure, pop round ..... but my pool is in Koh Samui, Thailand. We rent it out for holidays as we now live in USA and it takes 24 hours to travel back there.

Would love to have a swimming pond with natural filtration systems, have heard that they can be difficult to get to get really right.....

I think the pool water is being filtered by plants and reeds.

The main problem is the steps into, and the sides are very slimy and slippy. I can't believe it's meant to be like that.

The water isn't clear and when you walk into it the water gets all murky and there is little bits of green floating about.

Will have a good look shortly and report back.

The one and only time I have been in a 'natural' swimming pool I got a horrible rash.

Natural lake or river swimming = lovely
Chlorine pool = Fine
Manky stagnet 'natural' pool you can't be added to sort the chemicals out = awful

Jealous of the Thailand pool, sounds beautiful. We stayed somewhere with a fresh water pool. There was something so calm and simple about it. It was clean, no slime.

OK asked the lady who kind of looks after the place here. (not the owner).
I said "can we use the other pool?"

she said " oh is it because if the algae?" like totally unprompted by me!

I said its too slippy and dangerous (and totally rank).

she said yes but then everyone will want to use the other pool. so what I don't mind.

I have to check with her now to see if we can use the other one which is further away from the accommodation anyway. so no one might even notice us.

We can use the other pool and be discreet- so obvs doesn't want everyone else to use it.

Natural pools are meant o have a pump to force the water through the filtration system - they should not be stagnant at all. They should be crystal clear with water that is practically good enough to drink. Sounds like someone's forgotten to turn the pump on?
