To let DD1 wear her Elsa dress to this party?

DD1 (4) has been invited to a birthday party which had invitations with a 'Frozen' theme. She was looking forward to wearing her Elsa dress, which she loves. Today I got a text from the mum (sent to all the guests) saying that they are welcome to wear fancy dress but that the birthday girl will be dressed as Elsa. Is this a roundabout way of saying no one else should wear an Elsa dress? Would it be really bad form to let DD1 wear her Elsa dress or is the mum being a bit precious?

I wouldnt let her. Id just say "No darling, X is the Birthday Girl so she is Elsa. Lets see what else you could wear"

whether others would do it or not I dont know but I wouldnt send dd as Elsa.

Wow, that's very controlling of her, what is she expecting, one Elsa and all the other girls to be Ana? If that is indeed what she is implying (and it's not clear that she is) then she's being ridiculous.

Yes, that is exactly what the mum means Smile
it wouldn't bother me, personally. In fact, I was talking to a friend this morning who reassured me that her daughter wouldn't be wearing a Sofia the First dress to my DD's Sofia themed party in a couple of weeks. I did say that it was fine if that's what her DD wanted to wear, but she was insistent that she would make her pick a different dress Confused

They are 4. Of course they all want to be Elsa. The party mum is being ridiculously precious.

Yep, she's calling dibs on Elsa.

I would not dress my DD in her Elsa dress if I received that text.

It's a frozen party ffs, I would just send her as Elsa, the mum is being ridiculous! I bet they will all be dressed as Elsa anyway.

So all the other little girls have to be Anna then?

I think this is a roundabout way of saying that the birthday girl should be the only one dressed as elsa

I wouldn't but I bet someone there will!

I think that the birthday mum is saying she wants her dd to be the only one dressed as Elsa. You could text to confirm that is the case and if it is, it would be rude to send your dd as Elsa when she has asked you not to. You either dress as something else or politely decline if you don't agree with the rules.

However she has been very precious and silly if she does indeed want her dd to be the only Elsa. Little girls like wearing the same princess dress as their friends. And pretty ridiculous to not allow little Elsas at a Frozen party! But it's their party so up to them - vote with your feet!

How stupid. Why have a Frozen party where only one person can be Elsa? Very precious

In a Frozen themed party that takes a heck of a lot of options out. Is birthday mum expecting 4 year old girls to dress up as Prince Hans?

I would I'm a bitch the mothers being precious bet there's loads of Elsa's there.

Yes that is what the mum means.

My kids are older teens and we never, ever had this where a film took over everything. I have never known anything like this Frozen nonsense, tbh.

There are lots of other costumes rather than just Anna - a snowman, a reindeer, something blue and twinkly, frozen pyjamas.

I'd have a hard job explaining to my 5 year old why she wasn't allowed to wear her Elsa dress to a Frozen themed party! And if it was my 5 year old who wanted a Frozen party but wanted exclusive rights to be Elsa I would tell her to jog on!

I'd send her in the Elsa dress just to spite the other mum and her birthday princess silliness. If she commented I'd feign surprise at her, stating I didn't I didn't think she meant the bday girl was the only one allowed to wear one.

I'd be tempted to turn up in an Elsa dress myself if I received such a ridiculous text.

Can you check with the other party goers' parents? I wouldn't want to be the only rebel but if there will be several then go for it Wink

Can you reply saying 'great dd will wear her elsa dress too' ? I bet there are loads of elsa's there.

The mum is being outrageously precious. Fair enough that only the bride should wear white, but only the birthday girl should wear an Elsa costume? What rubbish. Plus, in your shoes, if my DD had an Elsa dress (which she hasn't ...yet) I would not be spending my time or money conjuring up another costume.
