Just been reading the brilliant and nostalgic threads about all the things parents did then that would be massively judged now so thought it would be fun to start a 70s/80s AIBU

AIBU to not want to have the whole of the street come and watch a football match on our new black and white TV?

AIBU to carry loads of kids in the boot of my estate car to footie matches and youth club? Their parents all know the deal and are glad of the lift.

Yabu, everyone in the street actually knows each other, they have been there for each other, the wives are sahm's who chat while hanging out the washing they've done in their twin tubs and the dads know each other from the local pub. Why not get together for a social occasion.

AIBU to stick my dd (9) in a short skirt, pair of fishnets, & beads and send her to fancy dress day as a tart? I wouldn't normally, but they only gave me a days notice and I can't come up with anything better

AIBU to be fed up explaining to MIL that the reason my calculator has no screen is because it's actually a gadget for our TV, called a remote control, that allows us to change the channel without getting up from our seats?

AIBU to leave my baby in her pram at the bottom of the garden when she cries so I can't hear her?

Apologies for derail, but wouldn't the telly be colour in the 70's/80's? We got our first colour telly (rented, of course!) in 1971, pretty much everyone had b&w tellies by then.

Back in the spirit of things, aIbu to expect my 9yo to walk home for lunch every school day? It's only a mile and there's only a couple of busy roads to cross.

AIBU to put the (single) carry cot in the boot with my newborn baby twins in with dd aged 2 loose in the front seat.

(This was dsis but I thought nothing of it either and waved her off smiling!)

AIBU to let 3yo DD nap across the bench seat in the front of our car with her head in my lap while driving? It slopes back slightly so she doesn't really need the seatbelt.

Oldlady, my mum and dad bought one of the first touch control tellies, but found that flies were capable of changing the channel if they landed on one of the buttons (not that we had a lot of flies mind you!) I can remember my dad asking the man (who came and suggested he Sellotape a piece of paper over the controls) to leave in a not very polite manner.....

AIBU to turn the back seat of the car into a bed for the kids during the long drive to Wales? Complete with duvet, pillow and no seatbelt? And to smoke 40 fags on the journey without opening the window? Can't hurt them can it?

WIBU to arrange with my dad to come and pick me up from the station if i call from the phone box and just let the telephone box phone ring twice? I've never got any change and how else am i going to get hold of him?

AIBU to be annoyed at my teenage daughter for dying her hair aubergine using Crazy Colour and thereby dying the bath pink at the same time?

( that was me btw and my mum didn't speak to me for a week after..)

(From my best friends mother) AIBU to respond to the schools request to send my 9 year old DD to school with a cardboard box from her art lesson, to send her in with an empty bumper maxi pads box? No one will comment will they and it really won't be something that still scars her in her forties.

AIBU to leave my toddler DDs in the tent while DW and I go to a ceilidh on the campsite?

AIBU to leave my 10 year old DD in sole charge of a newborn?

AIBU to let my 4 year old catch the bus home for lunch? She can put the 5p in a purse around her neck and I'll meet her at the bus stop at home. I'm sure an older child (age 6 or 7) will look out for her.
