AIBU to go off a friend because she's never heard of the film 'Brief Encounter'?

I do not expect my friends to know every piece of classical music, or to know the Latin names of every plant - but jeez, I expect them to have heard of Brief Encounter!

I've heard of it, even tried to watch it once...dull. Very dull.

I've never heard of it either. Is it saucy? And brief?

I've seen it and apart from a few scenes it's not that great a film really.

I know a lot about cinema and literature though and wouldn't necessarily expect everyone to have heard of it.

I watched it, it was shit. Supposed to be about repressed British emotions but they were all over each other and only circumstance stopped them shagging.

A nasty little film.

Does she have other redeeming features? Kindness? Loyalty? The ability to open a bottle of Prosecco while filling you in on the latest gossip. If so, order her a copy from Amazon. If not just bin her.Grin .

Oh she's lovely Marylou, I was just astonished that she'd never heard of it, she's 43 btw, not 18.

They did shag, they went to a hotel didn't they?

Great film though

No, they went to his friends house but the friend came home & interrupted them. I don't think she would have gone through with it anyway.

WARNING: Don't read this if you're going to watch film for first time ...

Noooo, Namechangearoonie123, they went to one of his colleague's flat and were just about to shag when friend came back ... aaaargh. So affair unconsummated. Then he got sent abroad, so they'd never meet again and even her 'goodbye' scene was ruined by some awful friend turned up and they had to make chit-chat ...

There! That's all you need to know. NO shagging.

You can't be being serious surely?! If you are, you are being very very unreasonable and pathetic too tbh!

I don't approve of Brief Encounter. Don't find it romantic or tragic or anything.

And like a loft of films of its era, people stand very still when they are talking to each other.

I am missing the point though. I am sure lots of people haven't heard of it.

Of course I'll still be friends with her, but I was a bit surprised that's all - I'm not a massive film fan but I know of ( & have probably seen ) all the British classics.
