To wonder who is drinking sugary drinks with their dinner

Govt advice is that families should have a jug of water on the table at dinner time. Do people really have sugary or even fizzy drinks with their meal?

Some people do.

Although I think the government should butt the fuck out of people's lives.

Yes they do

And I particularly like your judgey tone very thinly disguised as disbelief.

I will drink flavoured water/pop/tea with my meals

Dc (aged 1-6 years) have juice / water at home

Older two have a small carton of juice in packed lunch for school

We've only ever had water (or wine ;) ) with dinner. Wouldn't occur to me to have anything else.

Husband will occasionally have a coke at the weekend, kids have squash when out. Just wouldnt occur to us to have wiht dinner tbh.

I love a glass of coke or orangeade with my meals. Can't believe anybody would be shocked by that tbh.

My elder child refuses to drink water unless it's a dire emergency. When she was very small I followed all the advice about only offering water to drink (it's what I drink) and she refused liquid until she was horribly constipated and in constant pain. So if diluting juice stops her making herself ill, then I'm fine with it. Maybe I'm a bad parent for not wanting her to be in pain. I'll just have a think about that...No, I've thought about it, it's fine. It's the lesser of two evils in my house.

Jeez, mind your own friggin' business. You, the government and every other nosy, nannying idiot. Just run your own life and butt out of everyone else's. All this sanctimony on here at the moment is truly irritating.

Yes yes we really really do.
We have all the added sugar squash with our tea.
And?

I'm drinking lucozade with my breakfast. It's helping me get over all the wine I had with my dinner last night

I agree OP, I was a bit 'well doh' with that too!

I mean it's such an easy win - water with your meal.

(Hopefully offsets some of the parenting sugar fails - treats when out, sweets at the supermarket, ice-lollies at Grandmas etc.)

And this is after years of being advised to keep fruit juice and sugary drinks for meal times from a dental perspective.
You just can't win can.

I grew up being given a glass of Rosehip syrup with my dinner (70s) as per government advice.
I used to give my dc Ribena (following the same misguided belief) when they were little but stopped once they got to around 5.

The rule now is - if it is a weekday (well, Mo, Tu, We) then we all have water.
If it is a Th, Fr, Sa, Su then dh and I have wine and the dc have squash made up with sparkly water.

Works for us and I don't care who or what judges!

Other than wine I generally tend not to drink anything with meals, but have a cup of tea afterwards. DD has squash or water.

Being a tea drinker I am not in the habit of drinking sugary drinks during the day anyway.

And while we're at it, can't tell you the last time we sat round a table big enough to put a 'jug of water on'. our dining room table is full of crap and the computer and DD uses a weighted lap tray

I have the key to the seventh circle and ain't afraid to use it

We always have water but only because I am too tight to buy squash.

Please don't mention Wine - I rather overdid wine with a meal on Saturday and was extremely ill. I am never touching anything but water and tea again (OK, I may have said that before).

Govt should be telling middle aged people not to drink more than bottle of wine with meals on friend's birthdays. That would save on street cleaning costs Blush
