AIBU?

So, I ordered something off amazon yesterday, and, it has just been delivered. Efficient? Yes, you may say so.

However, the delivery driver rocked up in a van with music absolutely blaring. I don't mean just loud - the windows were vibrating.

Now, we don't have kids, but my 2 six year old cats started to panic at the increased and somewhat unusual noise.

My lovely next door neighbour has a six month old baby, and she is really struggling at the moment getting him to sleep/settle. She and her DH are both exhausted.

Having stopped in the middle of the road (despite there being ample parking) he then left the door open - engine on and music still blaring. He approached the house (from NDN's side Hmm ) and stuck it through our letter box. He did look somewhat startled when I opened the door though.

The conversation went something like this:

Me: thank you for delivering this. However would you mind being a little more considerate and turning your music down? There are children in this area and there is no doubt that you will be disturbing them

DM: but it's morning! It's fine!

Me: yes, and it's a lovely one. But I'm sure that six month old babies don't particularly care what time of day it is.

DM: (looking a little shocked) erm, ok then.....(gets into van and turns music down - waits for yet another couple of minutes with cars backed up behind him)

Is it me or was this bloke an inconsiderate tosser? Confused

Unless you have children, (or have worked nights), people don't understand the need to be quiet during the day, if they can be.

He mightn't of just been waiting in the van when he got back in, they usually have to fill something in to say it's been delivered, either on paper, or via a pad.

Many vans have full systems so the company knows the drivers every move.

He could've told you to fuck off but he didn't. He enjoys loud music and it didn't occur to him that it would be an issue. When he did, he turned it down.

Oh absolutely, I'm sure he did have stuff to complete. But he was blocking the entire road! And there was loads of space to park!

So he's inconvenienced the residents AND annoyed the drivers stuck behind him!

And breathe.......

I know Power - I even say in the title iabu. But a lack of consideration just pisses me off......

Loud music annoys me too, and I'd be irked by this, but he did turn it down when asked, and his comment about it being morning suggests that he does has some sort of appreciation that loud music is not always appropriate, even if not as fine tuned as that of us parents/pet owners.

Not a great representation of the company is it? Causing road blocks and disturbing residents on his deliveries.

Not sure why he would tell OP to fuck off Confused she was polite and it was reasonable request. Never mind that it could cost him his job if he said that!

But he turned it down when you asked. He could have been rude back to you.

You are massively overreacting.

what power said.

Yes he was being inconsiderate but didn't see the issue and turned him music down like you asked, it will make him think twice in future. Problem solved. Where is the problem?

Yanbu in that it's inconsiderate. Yabu to let it give you the rage. He turned it down, the moment has passed, but to still be so upset after a day then it's unhealthy.

Um, he turned it down? That was quite reasonable imo. However, I am so looking forward to when Amazon uses drones to deliver my stuff, instead of crazy white van drivers who drive far too fast. Imo.

Its not after a day. The parcel was just delivered.

Coffee I'm not that bad - this happened about 5 minutes before I posted Grin

Glad to say that the moment has passed - not normally like this, just very tired and very hormonal at the moment......

Gah, if this had happened last week I wouldn't have thought twice.....

I don't like loud music but this would have caused nothing other than a tut and an eye roll from me.

Some things just aren't worth 'raging' about.

Loads of people are inconsiderate, especially when young (though I don't know if he was young). People who haven't had DC can be really inconsiderate about their needs, people who don't have a child with SN can be astonishingly inconsiderate about that because they don't know what it's like, for example. Which makes me think even though I have experienced these two things, there will be other stuff that just hasn't occurred to me yet.

The important thing is when someone points out to you that you're being inconsiderate and why, you learn from it and change your behaviour. Which he did.

Waiting in the road is inconsiderate, but that just seems par for the course with delivery vehicles. The music? Meh, bit annoying but he did turn it down.

Starting a thread on mumsnet about it, and being so annoyed? Massively over the top. If you let this sort of thing get to you, you'll end up in a permanent state of stress.

YABU, as you said, but we all have things that annoy us sometimes. I used to live opposite a BT exchange which had locked gates outside. The workers used to turn up at all hours of the day and night with their radios blaring, get out of the vans (leaving the door open of course) to open the gate (with a rattle and a crash) and then park up and leave their radios on full volume until whoever else needed to be there arrived. Used to drive me crackers, but I never said anything to them as a) I knew it wasn't really unreasonable as they never did it before about 7.30am or after about 8pm and b) it was my problem, not theirs.

I did once go out and tell a neighbour off for playing full volume Euro pop from her car about about 1am - she looked a bit shocked when I loomed out of the darkness in my pyjamas but she did turn it down!

If people not in the vehicle can hear the music then that's inconsiderate imo.

Perhaps the cars only backed up because you waylaid him OPGrin

Great that he turned the music down, shame he needed asking.

Yanbu
He was in a residential street, not a a festival FFS. Ppl should be considerate to tose around them. Very loud music is intrusive. Lots of ppl need or want to sleep during the day; babies, sick people, night shift workers... And even if you're not trying to sleep who wants the aural assault of blaring noise?
Next time clip him round the ear. Wink

I was sitting in my living room this morning while my baby was napping upstairs. I heard the front door open so jumped up - the amazon delivery driver had just let himself in my front door and left the package in the hallway. Didn't even ring the bell or knock! I opened the door and looked out. He gave me a cheery wave and drive off. WTF?!

Creeped me out.

I think I will be locking the door when I'm at home from now on.
