To be glad Judy Murray isn't my MIL?

I am sure that she is a perfectly pleasant person and obviously immensely proud of her son; but all of this publicity about appearing on national TV (I think it was 'Strictly') and front page news today in the Evening Standard 'serving coffee to fans', makes me think she is being a wee bit possessive and trying to upstage the fiancée? Or is that being too harsh?

Pagwatch Wed 25-Jun-14 18:52:02

Upstaging the fiancée?

That's pretty weird right there.

She has a public reputation. She's going on tv.
I'm not sure it's any more complicated than that.

Scholes34 Wed 25-Jun-14 18:52:21

Too harsh. She's played a big part in his tennis career.

WipsGlitter Wed 25-Jun-14 18:54:11

She's not a fiancée, she's his girlfriend.

Judy is highly respected in her own right in tennis circles.

Pinkje Wed 25-Jun-14 18:54:47

Are they engaged? Missed that one.

Vinomcstephens Wed 25-Jun-14 18:55:07

Eh? I absolutely, categorically do not get the connection. So she's putting herself "out there" - what the hell does that have to do with Andy's girlfriend? How is she upstaging Kim? Is Kim wanting to appear on strictly or serve strawberries?

Maybe I'm being thick and you can paint a simpler picture for me, so I can join the dots on this one...

confused

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos Wed 25-Jun-14 18:57:01

Hell, no, YADNBU! Her determination, dedication, loyalty and strength are all admirable but she's used to being in control and it might all be a bit much!

Scholes34 Wed 25-Jun-14 18:58:15

You need to chill and listen to Desert Island Discs.

caramelwaffle Wed 25-Jun-14 18:58:26

Yabu.

Most definitely.

Frontier Wed 25-Jun-14 18:59:18

I think I'd be a bit scared/in awe of her if she were my mil but that would be entirely down to my inferiority complex and nothing to do with her tv appearances.

As his girlfriend I'd have more issues with the lingering looks that pass between him and the new coach, although again suspect that would be my issue rather than his

roundtoit Wed 25-Jun-14 19:00:58

Judy did the coffee with Uncle Tony ( Rafa).
it happens every year, different people do it. She gets the headlines because we are in England,Uncle Tony and Rafa get all the headlines in Spain etc. I like Judy she has a great reputation in coaching circles. If my sons were playing at Wimbledon I would be there at every match cheering them on too.

expatinscotland Wed 25-Jun-14 19:01:00

Eh? Do you know her? She is an MIL, her son Jamie is married. Andy has a girlfriend. You have to be married for someone to be your MIL.

basgetti Wed 25-Jun-14 19:01:43

Judy is the captain of the Fed Cup team and very involved in the tennis world in her own right. Kim seems like a lovely supportive girlfriend. They both hugged each other crying when Murray won his first grand slam so I'm sure they get on fine.

Icelollycraving Wed 25-Jun-14 19:03:55

I often say it myself. Yanbu. Didn't she once say something about the girlfriend being supportive & had helped a lot with his washing?

gordyslovesheep Wed 25-Jun-14 19:07:50

YABU and odd

londonrach Wed 25-Jun-14 19:10:18

Yabu. Re look at yourself what you wrote op.

buffythebarbieslayer Wed 25-Jun-14 19:11:07

Internalised misogyny again

She's a successful woman in her own right, not just Andy Murray's mother.

rootypig Wed 25-Jun-14 19:13:07

Upstage the fiancee? there are so many wrong ideas in there it's difficult to know where to start. YABU and I pity your MIL, is she locked in a cupboard somewhere

sleepyhead Wed 25-Jun-14 19:13:14

Yabu. Judy Murray does loads to promote tennis. It's about the game, not her son(s) as such.

Fideliney Wed 25-Jun-14 19:15:53

Maybe being of the 'strong independent woman' persuasion, she is slightly impatient with women of the swishy hair, little job on the side, WAG persuasion? Just a thought.

I can't actually see that she is deliberately upstaging anyone, though. Just doing her own thing.

drudgetrudy Wed 25-Jun-14 19:16:13

Did his girlfriend want to do the coffee? What a silly post.
Judy Murray is well known in the tennis world.
Why is taking an interest in her son's tennis career indicative of competition with his girlfriend?
Doesn't she know her place?

nemno Wed 25-Jun-14 19:17:47

I'd love her to be my MIL, but I'd rather stick with my current DH.

Nomama Wed 25-Jun-14 19:20:18

Crikey!

Maybe, now one is married and the other is a champion, she should just shuffle off and die? They don't need her any more, she has become an embarrassment, apparently?

Bollocks! She is doing what she does... celebrating and advertising tennis in general and her own place in it in particular. That's her job!

RumAppleGinger Wed 25-Jun-14 19:21:23

Wondered how long it would be after Wimbledon started that the Judy bashing would begin. Your thread is frankly bizarre.
