AIBU?

Would you prefer men not to post on MN?

I'm a man and I've just had my AIBU thread zapped, and it's made me sad.

My wife and I have been preparing for the birth of our baby (PFB) for most of this year.

I discovered MN while we were TTC, and have found it to be a great resource for all the worries and questions that naturally come to you at this time in your life. My DW reads it too sometimes, but not as much as me! I've posted a few threads myself, and got some great advice on some serious subjects.

I also discovered the more light hearted side of MN like Chat and AIBU, and quickly became slightly addicted to the funny, crazy and hilarious things people post.

Today I decided to post a silly story about me drinking gravy from a jug my wife had previously had a wee into (for a urine sample for one of the many antenatal appointments that all pregnant women have). Yes the jug had been washed in between! I was hoping to perhaps make a few people smile, like many other threads have done for me.

It was tame compared to some of the bodily function threads I read about on here. Yes I name changed, but it was a bit embarrassing - and many many other people do the same thing for their TMI posts.

Clearly some of you didn't like it, and have reported me and got the thread removed. Is is purely because I identified myself as a man?

It would be a great shame if the knowledge and resources of a site like MN were made less available to men who post openly.

I'm not going to flounce, but I think when I post in future using my new account, I wont draw attention to my sex - then I can join in the fun without being excluded.

God, you're basically Rosa Parks aren't you.

There are no men on the internet.

I have no problem with men posting on MN

I don't open the bodily function threads as they bore me shitless (pun kind of intended I suppose).

Probably not, but I can see where they're coming from, as some men can use internet forums dominated by women as a way of attention seeking. I was on another forum which became so dominated by one man that posters literally couldn't post without him commenting, often in quite a personal way. He was sending pms and using it as a way to meet women. It turned out that he was a good 15 years older than he claimed and I think the police were involved eventually.

I didn't read the thread in question but can tell you that they are rarely deleted for no good reason. Do you think you came across as pervy?

I didn't see it. Maybe people just didn't think it was funny, I know I don't from your description. Sounds rather Try Hard to me. Hoping for another "Penis Beaker" were we? (Another thread I never actually read, thankfully).

I like men posting on mn - it provides an alternative point of view.

Well the thread clearly had bad taste. It wasn't the TMI side of things.
But apart from that, I like having men onMN. Sometimes it's nice to see a different pov and I think men can also learn a lot from these threads too. have you looked at the feminist section btw? Can be very enlightening for men I think

I don't care if you have a penis. I do care that you are posting in aibu when it isn't an aibu.
Perhaps thats why you got deleted? You're not as special as you think you are, we have plenty of men around here.

I didn't see the thread, but have no problem at all with men being on here, don't let one incident stop you coming on here if you enjoy it

Ahhhh. There is a particular brand of dark and ribald female humour that men are crap at. That is what flourishes here on MN and though the odd man posting here doesn't bother me in the least, if your numbers get up you'll kill it with all your boring posts, and I'll be off.

I saw your gravy thread, it was not that exciting and a clear YANBU. My husband has no idea how many vessels in this house I have peed into in times of need. None.

And yes, he did come across as pervy.

I like men posting on Mumsnet. Some men do an excellent job of contradicting the theories about "all men" trotted out by the trolls. Providing "balance to the force" so to speak.

I don't believe your thread was zapped because you are a man though.

no I have no problem with men posting on here

I do have a problem with men pretending to be women then they out themselves usually with an attack on feminism

or the men that always seem to pop up on threads about prostitution and lap dancers

I did not read your thread. going by your description not sure why you would want to share

Oh, FFS.

Here I thought this was going to be a genuine question but it's a self-pitying whine about getting your trolling thread zapped.

There are several delightful men on MN. I'm fairly sure there are also a number of posters I've not clocked as men because - oddly enough - they don't post with penises in evidence.

Message from MNHQ: Thread deleted for Hmm reasons.

There are many MNers I love to see, because I like their posts. As this is a pre-dominantly female site, most of those are female, but not all of them.

I judge, and expect to be judged myself, on posts.

I never read by first post so I have no idea if you were being pervy or not.

Funny you should say that. I only recently realised one poster I like was male!

You might want to change your username. Wink

Of course your thread wasn't deleted because you're a man - plenty of men start threads which are not deleted. And plenty of women start threads which are deleted.

I'm sure it was nothing to do with you being a man. Lot's of people get there threads deleted - its not down to their gender Hmm
