Near where I live, there's a beautiful park. Lots of people use it, and when we walked there yesterday, there was litter everywhere - mostly cans and plastic bottles. Why do people come and enjoy a space then leave their litter? I just don't understand it.

Yanbu!!

Huge pet hate of mine. There's little enough green left these days and what is left is ruined with rubbish

My council estate looks an absolute mess and it used to be a really nice estate. It's because they are charging extortionate date to have rubbish collected compared to what they used to and the gardening budget has been slashed. Looks a right mesa, knee high grass and fly tipping everywhere

YANBU! There is a bit of scrub land between our flat & a busy road and its absolutely full of rubbish, it really disheartens me as this land could be really pretty if people were a bit less thoughtless.

Only looks a mess cos people leave it a mess..... Council budgets,or lack of, are no excuse at all

I was driving along behind a car a few days ago, down some local country lanes, when out the drivers window went a load of take away wrappers followed by an empty carrier bag! Angry

The common by us is the same. A complete mess. Everytime I pick up Greyhounds poo, I think - why do I bother? Such a shame. People seem to have very little value for anything these days

Yanbu. I hate it. Walking the dog at the weekend in a really lovely area of countryside and what do I see on the path? A used tampon! Dog was v interested but managed to get him away from it. Dd1 is 2 and always asks why there is rubbish around :-( she has a game at the local heath where she counts bottle tops!

Trust, but it used to be £5 to have rubbish collected. Last week it was £16 for a chair collected.
Yes they shouldn't sump it and I wouldn't but it's going to happen as no one can afford to get it collected and if you leave it out till you can you are breaching your tenancy. I don't drive so just have to bite the bullet and pay it

If you have something you want to get rid of, a good way to do it is post on Freecycle.

I have to admit I'm in the unsympathetic camp.

When I was at school we were asked to pick up litter on the walk to and from school. We lived in a tiny village and had pride in it. People would pass through the village and throw their litter out of the window. I never witnessed a child doing it then. I see it all the time now mainly from disrespectful adults. I live on a popular walking area and can't believe how many people throw their litter in the woods.

I nearly always pick up small sized litter near the house and put it in my bin but yesterday there was a stream of soiled toilet paper outside. It was only poo but I still couldn't bring myself to do it. What a failure - but also, who would just fling that in the street? I don't understand people sometimes.

I just can't get my head around dropping litter… and out of a car window… wtf ?

Just to point out in parks its not always humans who leave rubbish everywhere. Crows often pull stuff out of the bins looking for food. Tis true Ive seen it with my own eyes in my local park.

People who drop litter, or throw it from cars infuriate me. There is just no excuse for it.

Even if there is no bin, don't just dump it FFS. McDonalds bags seem to be a particular problem in my area - they're everywhere.

I live close to a pub, takeaway and have a public lane down the side of the property. This seems to mean my garden is the local dumping ground.... Angry

Everywhere else is practically litter free in this town though! unless it's been lobbed in other peoples gardens

Litter dropping is just pure laziness. Not bothered by a child dropping a bit of sausage roll, (I remember one parent being fined for it in the paper), but wrappers/carrier bags etc there's just no excuse.

Fife you should report where the rubbish is coming from. I work in a takeaway and if rubbish if floating about the council contact the shop

I think this half the time I use a public loo, where there's really no excuse as the bins are right there!

I don't live in London anymore and when I come back, the rubbish is the first thing I notice... it's everywhere! But then again, there is a distinct lack of public bins in London (for reasons, I know). Where I live now there are bins everywhere.

Re dog poo, what I hate (as a serious picker-upper) is when people pick up, then leave the plastic bag somewhere, for example in a bush or hanging from a tree like a grim Christmas tree decoration. If you can be bothered to bend down and pick it up why would you leave it like that?!

Secondly, as plod, I am no longer surprised at people and their disgusting levels of hygiene or lack of moral standards.
I've seen human poo more times than I like to recall and once a colleague trod in some inside someone's communal hallway. The culprit wasn't homeless, or suffering MH issues; just foully rank.

If McDonald's bags are a problem, you can phone the local store and complain. The manager will probably send someone out to litter pick. See www.mcdonalds.co.uk/ukhome/Ourworld/Environment/Litter.html.

Ha, I thought this thread was going to be about people who don't wash their sheets every other day, or shower twice a day!

YANBU, some people are just really grim. And don't get me started on public toilets and the shit mess that is sometimes left in those.

Goodness, I'm about to say something in McDonald's defense: I don't think they should be held to account for how people dispose of their rubbish after they leave the restaurant. People just need to learn to use a rubbish bin, innit?
