It means it will take ages.

It means it could arrive at any old random time.

It means if I am out they will take it away and there is no workable 'pick it up myself' option. One time I happened to be speaking to one of Johnnie's minions on the phone and they gave me the option of instructing for it to be left in my absence, but I don't seem to be able to select this of my own volition.

And it seems to be more and more things coming via Hermes.

Oh, my experience with Hermes is entirely different?! More reliable than most, I've found.

I used to loathe them but my area got a new driver and after he missed me a few times he took my no and entered it in his phone under my address so any issues he calls or if he thinks it's too expensive/breakable to be left somewhere.

Our hermes courier calls us too if we're out to arrange convenient redelivery or we collect from his house if passing. Is it worth leaving your number in the letterbox just in case? I remember a friends husband worked for them for a while and they only get paid 55p per package regardless of how many attempts of delivery they make and get no petrol or expenses so they are generally keen to get it to you

Will my (high value) parcel be left on my doorstep, in full view of the street? Will it be stuffed into the MIDDLE of the hedge bordering my path, with the note through the door stating 'In the bush for you!'? Will it be left with neighbours 6 doors down, who I've never spoken to, and the note through the door telling me it's left next door? Will a far-too-large-for-the-letterbox parcel be rammed through the letterbox, shredding all the brown paper covering and damaging the contents?

All things that I've experienced with Yodel. Bastards.

Im waiting for my Boden order which is being delivered by Hermes. My heart sank too. Ive never had any orders go missing when delivered by Royal Mail, and even when I miss them I can go 1mile down the road to the depot to collect it from there. The Yodel depot is on the other side of Manchester and Im not even sure Hermes allow depot collection.

My Hermes is known as the herpes delivery here... except that it is probably less reliable than herpes. Our delivery man used to just open the front door without knocking and sling the parcel into our hall.

One day I happened to be near the door when he did this and politely pointed out that he ran the risk of being rushed by a toddler and / or four dogs by doing this. Now he just knocks and leaves the parcel against the front door, regardless of the weather or if there are any signs of someone being home. I have also managed to sign for parcels despite being 10 miles away at work.

I'm not sure if it's Hermes but there is definitely one delivery company whose drivers are always ringing my bell and asking me to accept parcels for neighbours. I don't know these neighbours and they have not named me as alternative address. the driver just doesn't want to redeliver as he gets paid per parcel not per delivery attempt. Really pisses me off. Companies, please insist delivery drivers are paid more if they have to redeliver. Thanks.

No courier company could be as bad as Yodel. We had a flat screen TV delivered in two parts, the wall mountings and the TV itself. The driver with the wall mountings handed them into a neighbour, the guy with the actual TV which was worth about £500, stuck it in our back garden, no note through the door or anything. We were due to go on holiday the next day and discovered it sitting in on the back wall by accident!

See, I'm the opposite. The man who does the hermes delivery round here is fantastic. Everything arrives on time, safely etc, he's great!

Ah, that will explain why my parcel was just left on the doorstep.

I just ordered DS a new bit for his train track which he is really excited about. Delivery was nearly £5. It is being delivered by Hermes. I think if I am being charged nearly £5 and the driver is being paid 55p (!!) then someone must be taking a big cut. For £5 I would like Royal Mail!

My Boden comes by royal mail now after the Hermes women was very passive aggressive with snide comments about when I should be up as she walked away. Johnnies minions were lovely when I spoke to them about it. It was half 8 and I'd been I bed for two hours so didn't gear the door the first time she knocked before it sou fed lime she was trying to bang her way through.
Interestingly my Zulliy delivery was just stuck through my letter box no knock at all. Always the same driver round here.

Hermes pay only 45p for the most built-up rounds. They have just announced they are reviewing this rate with a view to cutting it.

Rural couriers get a bit more (me), but they have introduced a packet rate for anything under 1.3kg because that will go through a letterbox apparently????

They class us as self employed, and then control our every movement. They often don't get the work to people before lunch, but still expect them to meet timeslots of before 1pm.

They 'sack' people regularly if their vehicle breaks down, they are ill, or injured, or cover breaks down while they're on holiday. They reduce pay rates without discussion, you just discover on your invoice.

They are starting to force people to work 7 days a week, which they said they wouldn't do, but since they've been unable to recruit for sundays then they are going back to the regulars, telling them to do it and if they don't they will lose their mon-sat job!

My Hermes delivery guy is great he knows to come before school run and comes exact same time when I'm expecting delivery.

DPD is best they inform you exact time,his name and number

Hermes..bloody Herpes more like! An email with the words 'your package will be delivered by Herpes' makes my heart sink. Mind you wondering if the item will ever turn up and in what state does add a frisson of excitement to my otherwise dull day. I've had shoes left in a shared open passage way, signatures forged, items opened (presumably to check for valuables) and my Dad had a laptop flung over a 7ft wall onto a back yard, despite it having fragile stickers on it.

The drivers are self employed (I think) so it is very much the luck of the draw. The fact their conditions are so utterly shite probably doesn't make them take particular pride in their work and probably attracts a few shady characters. That said the current Herpes bloke is fine and tends to get to our flat just after nine, so that suits me.

I used to dread Hermes when I lived elsewhere but where I live now, I have a lovely lady who always does her best to leave the box somewhere sensible if I'm out, and if I'm in she's really friendly and remembers random details about me. She's great!

My Royal Mail postie goes beyond the call of duty and even stops me in the street half a mile away telling me he has a parcel for me, what time will I be back and where does he want me to leave it? He's a star!

I haven't had great experiences of yodel. Hermes, the stuff gets here but it's usually left somewhere random with no explanatory card through the letterbox.
My heart sings if I see something's coming by DPD! Best courier ever IMO
