... and would like to see the option to have one stay after the football is over. Unrelated to footie.

It gives MN a cosmopolitan sort of world-wide feel, and i'm finding it interesting smile

Hovering over the flag tells you the country and i've learned two i didn't know already in an hour.

(i realise that the choice of flag doesn't necessarily denote the nationality of the poster - lots of reasons to choose a flag. Still interesting)

I thought it was to show how worldly MN is but then it's all down to the stupid football.

I love it! grin

UnderEstherMate Mon 16-Jun-14 16:28:44

I love it too! I wish it wasn't just for the World Cup though. The flag I wanted wasn't there as they didn't qualify sad

DizzyKipper Mon 16-Jun-14 16:36:26

I quite like it too as it reminds me that MN is much more than just the UK, which in all honesty is quite often an automatic assumption I make about where the posters are posting from.

Rideronthestorm Mon 16-Jun-14 16:37:09

I'd like a Welsh one.

ICanSeeTheSun Mon 16-Jun-14 16:38:32

I would love a welsh one.

The USA flag is because I just wanted one

PrimalLass Mon 16-Jun-14 16:38:49

I'd like one, please. Even though Scotland obviously isn't in the World Cup.

OwlCapone Mon 16-Jun-14 16:38:52

Personally, I find all the pandering to football rather tedious. A football icon and now flags? OVer the top IMO.

PrimalLass Mon 16-Jun-14 16:39:22

How do you it?

PennySillin Mon 16-Jun-14 16:39:26

I think most of them are sweepstake results wink but you're right it brightens mumsnet up - I like them! smile

PennySillin Mon 16-Jun-14 16:40:01

Go into your profile Prima and you can select your team from a drop down menu.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler Mon 16-Jun-14 16:40:40

Not wanting to seem thick..... How does one get a flag? blush

<embarrassed for not knowing>

SantasLittleMonkeyButler Mon 16-Jun-14 16:41:15

Ah x-post.

PeachandRaspberry Mon 16-Jun-14 16:41:30

I like them, but only as a novelty. Not permanently!

SarahAndFuck Mon 16-Jun-14 16:41:31

I don't care about the football, I just wanted a flag. I was tempted to go for the prettiest one but decided to stick with England.

I just hope it's not snatched away from me the moment we are out of the competition.

Morethanalittlebitconfused Mon 16-Jun-14 16:41:32

Why has football been given this honour? Football is shit.

We've had the Olympics, Winter Olympics, rugby and cricket world cups in recent years and not a sniff of recognition.

fluffyraggies Mon 16-Jun-14 16:41:45

We aught to have the choice of all the flags then. Not just the footie ones.

I didn't realise there was no Welsh choice. That's a shame.

Would people like them to stay after the WC is finished?

LotsaTuddles Mon 16-Jun-14 16:42:07

I like it.

I have absolutely no interest in the World Cup or who's wins any kind of game.

It's just a bit of fun isn't it?

usualsuspectt Mon 16-Jun-14 16:42:09

Always someone to piss on your chips on MN.

I think the flags are cool.

TheSarcasticFringehead Mon 16-Jun-14 16:42:21

I love it. I had a hard choice between choosing England (where I'm from) and the US (where. I've lived for over a decade, where my DC are born and where I hope to spend the rest of my life).

There is football everywhere now. It's possible to hide the World Cup topic on MN and pretend it's not happening but now there are flags everywhere.

SarahAndFuck Mon 16-Jun-14 16:44:02

"We've had the Olympics, Winter Olympics, rugby and cricket world cups in recent years and not a sniff of recognition."

Well we've got to start somewhere or there'd still be not a sniff. smile

ICanSeeTheSun Mon 16-Jun-14 16:44:09

I would like them to stay.
