who is unreasonable regarding the bastard cat? you decide!

The cat is a bastard. There is no cure. He just is.

He sleeps all day (when not demanding good - usually hourly). Then at night he likes to go out.

And in.

And out.

And in.

And out.

And in.

And out.

'Oh get a cat flap' I hear you cry, but the door is unsuitable and even if there was one the kitchen door is closed at night and Bastard Cat has an irrational hatred of closed doors.

So...

He's out and decides he needs to come in. So he shouts and wails loudly until someone gets up and opens a door or window.

Repeat every 2 hours.

And reverse.

I think that if the bathroom window is left open he can come and go and all I need to do is wake up enough to open the bedroom door. Then Bastard Cat can come in and snuggle my head.

H thinks that is just inviting him to shout at the bedroom door. And it should be closed.

But then I have to wake up enough to trek downstairs to let him in.

Please decide who is right.

Thanks

I think if you have a cat, you have to let them roam the house pretty much...or they'll yell.

If it's doors open versus getting up every two hours, then there's no contest...it would be doors open.

I think Bastard Cat is right. He has you exactly where he wants you. At his beck & call. From his point of view, YABU.

Cat flaps in all doors would be wonderful.

A bit weird but wonderful.

How would one 'get rid' of a cat? Bag of bricks in the canal?

Get the cat a butler. Then you can resign from cat butlering.

He needs a night nanny.

Just leave the bedroom door open. Does he do this all night? Like a newborn baby?

I'm so glad my cats are happy to have just the boot room and a cat flap at night. and sometimes find catshit on the floor in the morning

I think your DH may have a point about him wailing at your bedroom door. Maybe you should just let the cat sleep on your head and give him free run of the house.

We shut ours downstairs at night, cat flap locked shut. They get put to bed when we go with a treat of half a pouch of wet food to share. Hear not a peep from them all night.

It's called sleep training! Shut them downstairs, insert ear plugs, give it a week or so to get bastard into the new routine!

The trouble is that you've taught the cat that you will come if he shouts loud enough.

Invest in earplugs. Then you can sleep through all the caterwauling. The cat will eventually realise that you won't come when he shouts, and then he'll stop doing it.

Problem is D2 likes the landing light on at night. So it's a bit light when the door is open.

Bo earplugs would work. He is Loud. And we have neighbouts.

Might need to tell D2 it is time to switch off the light.
