Bearandcub Fri 13-Jun-14 20:07:30

rallytog1 Fri 13-Jun-14 20:08:02

Can I get is actually quite a Scottish phrase...

Canthisonebeused Fri 13-Jun-14 20:08:28

I say movie and can I get. I think those two terms are used quite frequently in Scotland.

Sorry you hate me so much dude. sad

Doinmummy Fri 13-Jun-14 20:08:50

I have to clamp my mouth shut in order not to scream 'can I have ' when I hear people say 'can I get'.

Hiphopopotamus Fri 13-Jun-14 20:09:24

I have noticed I've started saying 'can I get'. Particularly in Starbucks - 'can I get a skinny latte' just seems to roll off the tongue!

I hate trash

I refuse to go to our local showcase cinema due to them using trash and cell phone and movie In their advert.

My husband gets the glare if he says movie.

sonlypuppyfat Fri 13-Jun-14 20:10:37

BumWad Fri 13-Jun-14 20:10:49

SantasLittleMonkeyButler Fri 13-Jun-14 20:11:13

DH says "can I get". I hate it.

Movie is OK though isn't it?

Aliceinvodkaland Fri 13-Jun-14 20:11:21

my kids have started saying 'i'm done' when they mean i'm finished!!

squoosh Fri 13-Jun-14 20:12:38

I sometimes say 'can I get' and 'back in the day'.

I have a problem with non Americans saying 'go figure' and 'my bad'.

Primadonnagirl Fri 13-Jun-14 20:13:09

bearandcub if so boring and beneath you why comment?
My Aussie mates say " can I get." And that sounds Ok but it doesn't sound right where I live! Mind you I once heard an American guy say " I'll take a latte.." I nearly called the police.

lljkk Fri 13-Jun-14 20:14:34

I wish I knew which Americanism were most annoying so that I could switch to them just to irritate the people I find most irritating.

I say dude and dudeyo which is probably worse.
I occasionally say y'all but not often enough for it to be an issue.
I don't think I say the rest, maybe back in the day occasionally, but it's said with tongue firmly in cheek.
I am really annoying though, I say things like hubby or even hubbster, cuppa, wifey, luffs and veggies.

scottishmummy Fri 13-Jun-14 20:15:12

Can I get is ok,I'd say it
Can I get a ginger?

shockinglybadteacher Fri 13-Jun-14 20:15:40

"Can I get" is Scots, perhaps the Americans got it from us :D

The other version is "Can I no' get/.../Can I no' EVEN get....?" when you are denied what you wish for.

What's wrong with 'can I get?'

squoosh Fri 13-Jun-14 20:15:56

My dad is 75 and he calls his house his 'crib'.

Old people these days.

Tsk.

Aliceinvodkaland Fri 13-Jun-14 20:16:18
