To wonder why people leave the house in pj's?

Now I'm not being judgemental, I think people can wear whatever the hell they want, but there is something that's been niggling me.

DD attends a nursery located round the back of the local primary school. On our way there I see all the kids being dropped off and by the time I've got her to the nursery, said goodbye and walked back round to the front of the school I see the stragglers coming in late. It's always the same 5 women and they're always in pj's. However, I have noticed something about the pj's, they always look clean and not slept in, I.e no creases. All 5 of them! Since then I have noticed it in other places too, the women that go to the corner shop and Asda etc in their pj's are the same.

So my question is this, do these women actually go to the effort of changing out of their dirty pj's and put fresh pj's on to leave the house? And if so, WHY?!

I don't know. But round here I often see women walking around the Tesco Express in PJs AND a dressing gown.

sezamcgregor · 12/06/2014 10:55

Perhaps they sleep nude

WallyBantersJunkBox · 12/06/2014 10:55

perhaps they are wearing loungewear items?

I wear similar around the house, but I sleep in my vest and pants.

You'd know it if I came to school in my sleepwear.. Grin

sezamcgregor · 12/06/2014 10:56

I have to add that I find it equally as odd - the furthest that I get in my PJs it to the wheelie bin

Dukketeater · 12/06/2014 10:56

I only put PJs on once I get out of bed but wouldn't leave the house in them! Mine are covered in bleach stains lol

Dfg15 · 12/06/2014 10:58

I saw a woman this morning walking her dog, she was wearing pjs and a dressing gown!

gamerchick · 12/06/2014 10:59

Because they're lazy fuckers. I love to wear pj bottoms in the house.. especially when it's hot or that totm. But it takes seconds to change out of them when going outside.

Fixitagaintomorrow · 12/06/2014 11:00

I'd definitely describe them as pj's, they're usually covered in a print like spongebob or tatty teddy. One had a hot pink onesie and dressing gown on once.

probably for the same reason they get dressed into a onesie to go shopping.

TurtleyAmazing · 12/06/2014 11:06

I was shoe shopping in town on saturday and stumbled across a 22-24 year old woman sporting a pink onesie. to make it worse she was asking her friend which of the 3 different trainers she had picked out would look the best with her onesie ''because it would jut look silly if they didn't match''

oh how i laughed.

DogCalledRudis · 12/06/2014 11:06

Pj's don't get that dirty after a night's sleep

FreudiansSlipper · 12/06/2014 11:09

because they are likely to be lazy slobs who cba to wash and dress

Fixitagaintomorrow · 12/06/2014 11:09

It wasn't these was it?

I wear pjs to sit around the house - I don't sleep in them. I'd wear them to nip out to the car (on the drive) or to hang washing in the back garden... but I wouldn't wear them out! I would wear loose linen/cotton drawstring trousers out though, and to be honest, there's not much difference, except my pjs are nearly all covered in jaunty check patterns.

LaurieFairyCake · 12/06/2014 11:09

I walk my dog last thing at night in my pj's and dressing gown. It's dark and I live in a cul de sac and no one can see.

And nor do I care. Since my dogs ancient and on steroids he needs to pee a lot - I'm not getting dressed after 10pm

BolshierAyraStark · 12/06/2014 11:12

Dunno, I won't leave the house in my trackie bottoms let alone PJ

BolshierAyraStark · 12/06/2014 11:13

...PJ's-wtf is wrong with my phone today Hmm

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 12/06/2014 11:17

I wouldn't go to the shop or walk the dogs in my pj's/nightie, although I only change into them after a bath or shower and I sleep nude. However I have been known to dash to my car and go and pick ds1 (16) up late at night when hes called and has no cash or is too far from home to walk. I then pray that the car doesn't break down or have an accident as me walking home in my nightie with just a cardi and no underwear would not be a pretty site. Admittedly my nightie is the type you could just about get away with as a summer dress, strappy cotton jersey, usually plain or maybe stripes, but my boobs down to my belly button would give it away Blush

LaurieFairyCake · 12/06/2014 11:17

And I have an inkling that people care less if you're walking your dog at midnight in pj's than if you're walking your kid to school in pj's.

Because we're secretly judgemental of folk who look like they've just got up at 9am Wink

Same pj's, different judgement. It's not really about leaving the house in nightwear. It's about time of day.

No one would judge me popping to pick up teenage dd at midnight if I wore pj's and didn't get out the car.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 12/06/2014 11:18

x post laurie.

LaurieFairyCake · 12/06/2014 11:18

I know, right Smile

ThePrisonerOfAzkaban · 12/06/2014 11:20

I sort out the horse in my pj's, they are looser and much more comfortable then tight riding clothes. I don't ride in them just sort out the bed, food and water etc. I sleep nude so I guess yes I get changed into pj's to go out.

Haha no, unfortunately not. I think i might of died of laughter if they was.

they was bright pink and black trainers, addidas ones i think.

I have only been out in public in my Pj's once.

i went camping got drunk and fell into a bush of what i think was thorns and badly gashed my legs up, I didn't fancy wearing my shorts home the next day as i feared people might think i had been in a knife attack.

VitoCorleone · 12/06/2014 11:52

Well, i have been known to pop the the shops in my Jim jams and slippers, usually in the evening because ive already got them on then need to go get milk, what's the point in changing into clothes to get back into my pj's?

That said, ive never been to the school in them, never seen anybody else in the school in them either, or Tesco or asda. If i did id assume maybe they where ill and going back to bed after drop off. But every day the same people? Weird and slightly lazy.

Amilionmilesaway · 12/06/2014 12:00

I think if you're out and about in pjs in the daytime it is either because you have slept in them and you're telling everyone you haven't had wash/shower that morning or because you sleep in something else/nude so instead of putting clothes on after your wash/shower, for some reason you thought it was more logical to wear pjs and give the impression you haven't had a wash/shower.

So in summary, if I see you in pjs in the daytime I will assume you're a bit scruffy/smelly/dirty or you're not but don't mind being perceived that way.
