Dear manufacturers of clothing for small boys

I am not a dude, or indeed a little man. I may well be cuter than my daddy, or better looking than my daddy, but I do not judge it seemly to declare this publicly. My younger sibling, when he or she arrives, is unlikely to refer to me as his or her "big bro".

My behaviour, within the limits of the capabilities of a two year old, is reasonable if not on occasion exemplary. Therefore I would suggest that slogans which draw attention to it's less pleasing aspects, viz "little but loud", "here comes trouble", "cheeky monkey", "little monster", et cetera, are not appropriate.

I am not in the army, I am not a surfer, a trucker, or a rapper. And I am far too young to have heard of the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, or Guns n Roses, whatever they are.

Like most human beings, I don't suit nasty, dreary, washed out colours such as: faded navy, dung brown, sun bleached green or barely-burgundy. Ditto burnt orange and sludgy beige. I know that the idea of using bright, gorgeous colours and attractive, inventive patterns similar to those used by your colleagues in the girlswear department fills you with worry, but I promise that most mums and dads and other purchasers of children's clothes don't share these anxieties.

Totally agree!! It's so hard to find some fun clothes for my boy without them having stupid slogans on or boring blue.

Little girls have sooo much more choice. I'm always jealous.

It's not just next though, it's most high street shops. A couple like H&M are ok but we don't have many round our way.

Morrison's for colour - although even they drop off at 6-7 onwards.

I wish they'd make little boy waistbands higher. No toddler needs low-rise bottoms.

I agree. I hate tshirts with slogans. I managed to get some nice bright Summer clothes for Ds in h&m and Sainsbury's. However I have a feeling it'll all change when he's 2. Clothes from that age on seem to try and make them into little teenager's with band tshirts or aztec print etc.

Have you tried Vertbaudet? DS is nearly 10, but when he was small he had some great outfits in red, orange or bright green.

I agree about Skulls on kids clothing. I refuse to buy clothes with skulls or bones on. My son is not a pirate, and even if he was I doubt he would want to advertise that fact!

It's odd though, the shops offer these slogan covered things for sale, but I rarely see any small children wearing them.

its all summer dresses, plain t-shirts, leggings and shorts for girls; and joggers, plain trousers and plain t-shirts for boys.

With cardigans or woolen jumpers. Even hooded sweatshirts seem to be the preserve of over 8 around here.

I also got some amazing deals a few months ago from Pumpkin Patch for DS, including a bright orange (not fluorescent, just bright) insulated jacket, burgundy trousers with a toning striped top.

Totally agree, I almost relented in Matalan the other day and bought slogan t-shirts, so sick of looking for anything decent. And low rise waists on toddlers are ridiculous.

There is not plenty of choice for boys at all.

And can we please have some normal trousers for boys that are not skinny legged, or nipped in at the ankle, or strange and twisted? Even M&S seem to be following suit with that, and I have to buy my ds trousers off ebay to get the older kind that are just normal combat trousers.
