AIBU?

To ask you if I'm going to survive juicing diet

massagegirl · 02/06/2014 08:23

Day 1 today. Hot water and lemon. Then just juice and water.... For 7 days. Am I going to die/shit myself/ steal food from my one year old?
I know it's a fad. But I've let myself go and I need a kick up my fat arse. Anyone done it and survived and got results?

Not only is it a fad, it's stupid. You are just crash dieting and hugely restricting your calorie intake for 7 days juicing doesn't actually do anything for you.

You'd be better off leaving the fruit and veg whole and eating a nice big bowl of undressed salad for lunch and tea if you really must do it.

Can I advise you to juice veg rather than fruit as much as possible so that you don't get sugar problems

Spinach, curly kale - in fact snack on spinach leaves if you're eating leaves

After 7 days you will eat properly and it will all come back on

Juicing and such diets are shit. Eat smaller portions of better foods.

I lost 4 stone after ditching fad diets and doing it properly.

Doesn't juicing just produce a load of sugar? Does anyone know what I think I mean?

Yabu, sorry. As soon as you start eating normally again you'll just put the weight back on, it's a fad diet.

If you must do a 1 day fast. Lemon water, veg juices, plenty of water. Meal plan, join the gym and mfp.

You can totally do it, but fad diets are a waste of time.

Unless you are slimming for a particular event, these juice diets are no good, it all comes back on straight away.

What do you plan on doing this time next week?

Seriously I would start whatever your long term plan is now and skip the fads

I know you're right. I've had good results on slimming world before. Have just joined a gym. The difference is I'm so bloody determined now, feeling so gross and am sick of it. Just heard that people feel really good after juicing... Was hoping to boost energy levels, maybe kick start wight loss. It's mainly veg in the juice. Ill stick out the week then onto excercise and healthy eating.

To buck the trend...
Dh has done it (twice) and lost about 10lb each time and I've done it and lost 7lb.
The first 2 days are the hardest, but you don't actually get hungry - my biggest issue was caffeine withdrawal, but that's done with after a couple of days.
I did NOT put it back on afterwards, but I eat fairly sensibly. If you binge it will come back, like any diet I guess.
I have to admit DH did put it back on the first time around... But he also broke his fast with Double pepperoni pizza, and then carried on in that vein!
After a few days you'll probably be desperate to chew stuff - I was - but stick with it, it's defo worth it.
Am considering doing it again soon actually. Less for the weight loss (although that's always nice!) and more for the massive unavoidable boost in vitamins and nutrients.
Good luck!
YANBU!

If you are serious about losing weight and keeping it off, you need an eating regime that you can stick with for the rest of your life (allowing the odd splurge on special occasions). Juicing is not the answer.

You will feel good by eating healthily, taking more exercise and losing weight. Have a look at the intermittent fasting threads one the weight loss forum, if you want to try a fasting approach.

i dont think you will die or do much damage juicing for one week and it will help to reset your eating habit

Report
specialsubject · 02/06/2014 10:53

you will survive, but you will be hell to live with and are wasting your time. As you discover, diets don't work - you say you've had 'results' on slimming world but as you are overweight again, you didn't.

IF YOU GOT FAT AGAIN, THE DIET DIDN'T WORK. WHY CAN NO-ONE SEE THIS?

please don't abuse good health with stupid diets. Eat properly (get advice if you don't know what this means, and NOT from anyone selling anything) and move around.

juicing is a ghastly waste of good fruit and veg. You have teeth.

I agree that diets don't work. To lose weight and keep it off you have to change your eating habits for life. It's taken me a long time to figure it our for myself tbh, but I've lost 5 1/2 stone over the last 18 months and I am not starving myself.

merlehaggard · 02/06/2014 11:07

I don't think it will do any harm as a boost before slimming world (which isn't a diet as such but healthy eating) but wouldn't recommend it if you were then going to eat unhealthily.

Everyone has an opinion on diets.

I go with what works for me and if I get told about how unhealthy that is, it's not exactly healthy being a tub of lard and I find the kick start method works for me to break the cycle and then make me better able to stick to what follows.

Great if you need to drop a dress size for a wedding/party. Not a great long term solution

I agree Special Subject's tone was harsh, but I think some people (me included) feel frustration at the diet industry - they plan for an 80% failure rate in order to keep people coming back and thus making more and more money.

I know lots of people who've had excellent SW and WW results...which have lasted 6-12 months and then they go back.

Good luck. FWIW I think a 2-3 day 'crash diet' to get you started can sometimes be a good initial motivator, as long as you then move to something more sustainable.

What about My Fitness Pal? I think it's very motivating as you can add loads of exercise in short bursts. I'm trying to lose 4lb that I put on recently, and if it gets to the evening and I've not done any exercise it motivates me to do a 10 min blitz so I can at least add something that day.

massagegirl · 02/06/2014 12:51

Thanks mrscog I'll have a look at my fitness pal. Because of having ME I have to be careful (over excercise was part of initial problem) but starting gently and building up will be good.

If you have had ME why on earth will you even consider a stupid diet that might harm your health?

You may think Special is a bitch, but she's talking a lot more sense then you are.

I have been getting results with the 5:2 diet - lost at least a stone so far. It is gradual but seems to work.

TBH I think it is helped that on the non-fast days I have also cut out some of the junk that was becoming a habit e.g. crisps and biscuits. We have always eaten a fair amount of fruit and veg but even more so now. So I eat healthily and a normal amount 5 days a week and then stick to 500 calories or less for the other two days.

Once I have got my weight down to where I want it then I am hopeful I will be able to stay there because my "normal" eating is now fairly healthy. It won't be a case (I hope) of crashing down and then just going back to eating as I did before.

Fad diets do not provide long term weight loss.

An acquaintance did the juice diet for breakfast, lunch and ate a lean meal in the evening. She was restricted from eating so many food types. She tried to encourage me to do it even though I am well within my weight range.

I would much rather eat exactly what I want but in small portions. Crisps only at weekends, no sweets and dessert everyday.

Some women are always on diets but their weight remains the same. You have to be well disciplined in order to sustain your weight loss.
