My Dad stood as a UKIP candidate...

He is Not a nice person.

We've been estranged for years, he was absolutely terrible to my mum in front of us, and continued to be violent to my older brother when we were made to visit him when my parents divorced.

Last year he decided that since I had 2 children he didn't know, he would take me to court for access to them. It cost us several thousand pounds but (obviously) he didn't win.

He's spread lies, reported us to social services for unfounded things, been threatening and repeatedly violent. Not just me, but also my mum, stepfather & siblings.

One of my friends sent me a link last night that he stood as a UKIP candidate for his area, I'm shocked that someone with such a history of violence and domestic abuse, absolutely no good character and no standing in the community could just stand??

I'm shocked to think that any party would accept him, given his criminal records and history?! Do they not vet these people?

I'm nervous to google and see if he actually won!

You poor thing!! How awful!

I am sure they wont let people stand with records etc....who knows, all sorts have slipped through to UKIP but they are I believe tightening up and want no more....less pleasant types!

I would either report him to the police for his violence or send an email to Farage or the papers about it.

Stitch him up. Scum.

Oh poor you. But it doesn't surprise me that someone like that would stand for UKIP.

I would e-mail UKIP and ask them to give you their opinion on whether he is fit to represent them. I think they are trying to improve the standard of their representatives and would probably like to know

I don't think they necessarily do vet people. In fact, it's actually quite difficult to find people willing and able to stand for election.

I filled in a form when I stood and had to declare whether I had anything in my background that would make me unsuitable but that was it. No DBS checks or anything like that.

So, given that UKIP are desperately trying to field candidates and gain a stronghold they probably don't delve very deeply at all.

I really feel for you.

Well, I took your advice and emailed UKIP... Lets see if anyone replies to me!

Thanks for the offer but I don't want to know at the moment Blush if he got in I just couldn't bear it. He would really think that was some amazing validation of his aggressive little life and I just couldn't stand it. That's ridiculous isn't it?! It doesn't even affect me at all!

No problem :)

It isn't ridiculous at all. It's hard to think people might be endorsing someone who you know is a shit. I get it about fuckface abusive ex who is in a lucrative job.

Nope they are unlikely to gave vetted him. This coupled with the probable lack of training and track record in community politics is one of the many reasons IMHO UKIP are a joke party.
When I stood for election I had an interview and thorough vetting.

The Kippers don't need anyone to destroy their credibility, they can do it just fine by themselves.

That's the attitude that got us here in the first place.

See you after the referendum.

It wouldn't be the first time an abuser has engineered themselves into a position of power or perceived power.

Would be interested to know if they even respond,I doubt they will

Well, caruthers, I hope that the UK which you allegedly care about so much still exists in 2017 in order to vote in said referendum. If the UK does hold together, it'll be no thanks to UKIP. Apologies to OP, will stop taking thread off-topic now.

I'm quite happy that UKIP has got a sliver of power now. I predict that they will go the same way as the BNP with merrily jerking knees.

The two people I know (distant, distant) aquaintances, prove that UKIP are happy to scrape the barrel. If anything, OP, just take it as confirmation what a charming character your father is.

Political parties have to rely on what would-be candidates say about themselves. They have no access to the PNC or to court records.

Which is how it should be, even if it means that some scumbags get nominated. Don't blame UKIP for this.
