AIBU?

To think making a hot cup of tea isn't so difficult?!

My husband has the most vexing habit of starting to make a cup of tea and then buggering off. If he remembers it, the tea is cold and stewed. If he doesn't, I end up throwing away another two cold cups of tea.
I mean, it's not fucking rocket science, is it??
He's just done it again. I'm now making a fresh cup of tea to pour over his head
I dread to think how much this has cost us in teabags over the course of our relationship.
I know it's only a small thing but the small things can be the biggest irks such as his noisy sleeping
I'm sure I should appreciate the fact that he makes a brew at all blah blah blah but I'm at the end of my sodding tether!

I know, but I do it too and so does DH, it's that minute or two while you wait for it to brew (if in the cup) or 5 mins (in the pot), it's so easy to get distracted and forget about it. I hate tea where the water has been poured onto the teabag and then the bag immediately squidged with a spoon and lifted out, so it's the lesser of two evils to me.

Agreed it does have to brew and teabag squishing is wrong.
However I'm on mat leave and spend all day having to drink cold tea
At weekends and in the evening he should really make the effort and bring me cups of tea in bed

It's not hard is it? My DH plonks teabag in mug, pours on hot water, adds milk immediately, and then......

He squeezes the teabag with his fingers and lifts it out.

Eeeeeeeuuuuurrrrgggghhhh.

It's so disgusting, like he's washed a mug with a combination of rainwater and piss. I can't be polite about it. I've told him a million times how to do it properly but he never does.

I now mostly drink coffee Smile

Mine just asks me to make them. I don't think he even knows how to boil a kettle, so you're doing better than me! Ergh

The balance of milk - tea is crucial and surprisingly difficult to get right.

I usually don't like the tea that other people make, but I am a real fusspot.

Opposite problem in this family. My mother has this superpower of making tea at thermonuclear reactive temperatures that no living being can drink for at least half an hour. I don't know what she does to the kettle in order to be able to do it, but she does it well.

So when she visits, the house is full of cups of tepid tea from 3 hours ago because it had to be put down to cool for so long that people forgot about them. Brew

My DH makes me lovely hot cups of tea all the time. You must be doing it wrong. Confused

(Wink just in case anyone was unsure.)

I would LTB! I take tea very seriously. I have trained the people close to me to make it exactly how I like it. Cold and stewed are grounds for divorce.

It's me who does this ConfusedDH makes lovely cups and always tells me I make cold tea. It's so easy for that two minutes of waiting to soak to turn into 5 or ten Grin

My DH cannot make a decent cuppa, no matter what he does it tastes like stale dishwater.

Mind you, I haven't had a REALLY good cuppa since I moved to the south east, I think it's the water here

DH leaves it to brew for too long then adds a gallon of milk. It's freezing cold ten minutes later. I can only drink hot tea so this does my head in.

My DP can make good cups of tea, but he does have an annoying habit of boiling the kettle and then leaving it for 10 minutes before he gets round to pouring the water into the mug...it's not hot enough! Tea has to be made with just boiled water Grin

Report
enormouse · 10/05/2014 11:48

Dp has a similar problem but not with the actual making of tea. The wandering off after the kettles boiling and forgetting he was asked to make tea in the first place. Or wandering off after he's put the tea bag and sugar in the mug. Or wandering whilst it brews. Or some combination of the three.
I usually get my tea about 20 minutes to an hour and a half after I first asked for it.

But when it eventually arrives, it's quite nice.
