AIBU?

to hide the Molton Brown while the builders are here and put out the cheap soap?

Having the loft converted and thought the builders were using the upstairs bathroom. But it seems they are also using the downstairs loo (well someone is leaving the seat up!) and using my Molton Brown soap.

Will they be upset if I substitute a lesser brand? WWYD?

I don't think you should change it makes you look a bit snobby if you do

I'm sure they won't care what soap you have.

I hide the MB from my DH and DDs, YANBU.

It wouldn't occur to me change soap for anyone or even think to post about it.
It's like you are saying builders are a sub species or underclass and not worthy of things other people are.

I doubt they'd notice, as I imagine they're neither scrutinising your toiletries or bothered by what they're using. But you do sound quite snobbish.

My builder uses White Company products. I can't afford them because I give my builder all my money.

It's not that I think the builders are an underclass. It's just that I don't think they'd fully appreciate the posh soap.

I offered them use of the nespresso machine btw. They've just gone for the instant though.

" But you do sound quite snobbish"

Ah. I'd forgotten the obligatory "lighthearted" disclaimer over my dead body these days.

Give OP the benefit of the doubt, I think it's more about a largeish number of people she doesn't know using her nice stuff up, rather than the fact they're builders-?

But yes ok, that is probably snobbish regardless who the people are.

Anyway OP YABU all round because Liz Earle Orange Blossom is much nicer than MB.

All the builders I know are minted so they probably have posher soap than you and I wouldn't say molten brown is that posh seems to be in every hotel and restaurant bog you go in these days.

What do you mean by "not appreciate" the soap? Does it not work as well on builders?

Report
flipchart · 12/04/2014 00:47

Wow! I'll just tell DH's mate that he doesn't appreciate the finer things in life, you know, because he does manual work ( and is minted and funny enough educated!)

£16 for soap. My arse. Tesco value. Substance over style, every time.

Who wastes dosh on over-priced hand soap? What is to appreciate?

Report
skinnyflatwhite · 12/04/2014 00:54

Expatinscotland - I "waste dosh" over hand soap. I appreciate it. I won't waste energy trying to explain the whats and wherefores.

The lovely smell! presumably you all rub yourselves with a lump of coal in the shower or bath Hmm

I was bought my posh soap as a pressie, but it is a lovely one. Every time I was my hands - SAHP, so a lot - it gives me pleasure

Be grateful they're washing their hands and leave it in there.

every time I wash my hands... It gives me pleasure seriously, I don't want to offend you personally but WTF? Soap? Do you have more money than sense? Do you never, ever have to budget for anything so you have never considered why you are paying £16 for something that costs 16p?

Report
expatinscotland · 12/04/2014 01:04

Appreciate it? You're washing your hands, not soaking in it.

FFS. What a waste.

I wash my hands a lot, I have PTSD leftover from when DD1 had leukaemia and died. I appreciate cleaning the hands to remove germs and hopefully prevent infection.

Yes, hide you hand soap.

Calculators I clearly said it was a present
But really, you're on a hiding to nothing here. How much does your shampoo cost? your jeans? unless you're wandering around in a hemp sack the same principles apply and soap is the least of it

'unless you're wandering around in a hemp sack the same principles apply and soap is the least of it'

Your jeans you wear and wear. Your shampoo can determine how your hair looks and feels.

Your hand soap you wash off your fucking hands in a few seconds and walk out the door.

Report
rootypig · 12/04/2014 01:17

You can wear and wear the cheapest jeans. You can not care how your hair feels. You can not care how your hands feel, and I don't, not really. But it's all the same thing.

You are right, rooty, these principles apply right across the board. Not just soap. It's not aimed at you, I just had a touch of the red mist brought on by the thought of people buying in to the 'lifestyle' crap peddled by these companies.
Don't waste your money on crap.
