to think a Royal visit is a great excuse when really you want to watch the World cup!

Look - Kim's starting another Royal Family thread in AIBU. I know - didn't she learn last time. grin

But here goes again.

www.standard.co.uk/news/london/prince-harry-will-watch-england-play-in-the-brazil-world-cup-9238331.html

Prince Harry is off to visit Brazil and Chile. Maybe to help relations.
By an amazing coincedence, it's the same time as the World Cup - so it would be rude not go and cheer on England, wouldn't it?

Is it way way too cynical to think he put the idea to his advisers that a visit to Brazil would be a good thing for the country?

I hope he pays for his tickets.

[prepares for flaming]

YABU smile

WorraLiberty Fri 04-Apr-14 16:23:03

I don't think I've ever known someone so obsessed by the royal family!

kim147 Fri 04-Apr-14 16:24:26

I know - I heard it on the news on the way home and just thought - typical !!

Obsessed, I tell you.

kim147 Fri 04-Apr-14 16:24:50

Then I thought - do I do an AIBU and risk a flaming or not?

WorraLiberty Fri 04-Apr-14 16:25:43

I can't see you getting particularly flamed, it's just a bit boring.

formerbabe Fri 04-Apr-14 16:25:57

Whatever they want, wherever they want to go...they get it.

Bowlersarm Fri 04-Apr-14 16:26:28

For someone who purports to dislike them, you do like talking about them an awful lot.

Obsessed indeed, Kim.

Bowlersarm Fri 04-Apr-14 16:27:37

You know you won't get flamed, what with all the MN lefties around. You didn't on the last one (did you?). I didn't think you did.

kim147 Fri 04-Apr-14 16:28:03

I could have done the who cares what Princess Anne thinks about badgers one as well - but that would be too much.

DontCareAboutYourShoes Fri 04-Apr-14 16:28:37

Harry looks naaaaice

kim147 Fri 04-Apr-14 16:28:45

bowlers

Do you Harry's on a world cup freebie grin

Lemongrab Fri 04-Apr-14 16:32:29

I don't care if his secret reason for going is to see England play. But I'm a shameless Royalist grin

<waves the Royal Standard and sings Rule Britannia>

gertiegusset Fri 04-Apr-14 16:32:53

I didn't know he had relations in Brazil, are they putting him up during his stay? grin

AuntieStella Fri 04-Apr-14 16:33:38

Not flaming (I hope), because it's OK to want to talk about the Royal Family all the time. And there are a lot of Royal obsessives on MN.

But I do think it's a little inconsiderate to put thread after thread in the main boards when there is separate topic. Using the topics makes easy for those who do not share the fascination and endless desire to talk about them to hide the whole damned lot in one go.

kim147 Fri 04-Apr-14 16:33:51

I'm sure some locals would be willing to have Harry stay at their house.

gertiegusset Fri 04-Apr-14 16:34:11

Bet he is on a freebie, like you said, dressed up as being an ambassador for Britain dont'cha know.

AuntieStella Fri 04-Apr-14 16:36:56

But as the thread's here - why is it Prince Harry that's going?

Is he representing his brother (who has been President of the FA for 8 or so years now)?

gertiegusset Fri 04-Apr-14 16:37:28

Bah, who ever looks at the other topics, keep it out in the open unlike their lobbying of Parliament for private interests smile

kim147 Fri 04-Apr-14 16:38:43

I think he's visiting Brazil and Chile.

The World Cup is just an extra.

gertiegusset Fri 04-Apr-14 16:40:39

Good timing then, these things aren't planned ages ahead are they.

kim147 Fri 04-Apr-14 16:45:06

I can imagine Harry's security detail have way more fun than William's.

Isn't he still in the army? It's amazing how much leave he gets. All in the name of forging good relations with the host country of course.

meditrina Fri 04-Apr-14 23:08:24

The Army is really good at arranging the time of those who represent their country internationally. Rob Wainwright for example had a Bosnia tour cancelled so he could captain the Scotland rugby team.
