AIBU?

to be sick of eBay buyers taking me for a ride

I've been selling a lot on eBay to raise money for new baby. I'm so poor because I've only just gone back from maternity leave from baby one so have been selling everything that is nailed down to fund extra stuff that didn't last from first time (bought a lot secondhand first time and some stuff broke)

Anyway, I am barely making anything because people kick up such a fuss even over 99p items. It is ridiculous. They expect postage to be free and it to come yesterday and it to be in mint condition and looking worth a million dollars.

The latest is a vintage felt 50s skirt. I listed it as used and said this is a used felt skirt please see photos for condition. There were 10 photos showing every little detail and clearly showing some light bobbling as can be expected for a vintage used felt skirt.

Seller send me an inflammatory rude aggressive message demanding a full refund and to be able to keep the skirt because I didn't write USED OLD VINTAGE FELT SKIRT IS OF COURSE BOBBLED BECAUSE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR IT TO BE ANYTHING ELSE in big letters just in case she was too lazy to look at the photos I took time reading and expects used to be mint. I never said it was in perfect condition or anything.

I offered an 80% refund but she says that isn't enough.

When I asked if she could return it for a full refund she said yes but I must pay for it to be sent tracked. It's huge and heavy and already cost neartly £4 in postage. She said it makes more sense for her to keep it and have a full refund.

I suspect her type will leave bad feedback whatever I do. I also suspect she's trying it on because she's spotted an oppotunity to get away with it. it bwas as described and pictured. I haven't misled anyone so why is she being such a bully?

I'm so fed up and tired. I'm never selling anything again. Too many chancers.

tell her to knob off.

Hopefully somebody will give you better words than that.

I've never used ebay so I can't comment on specifics, but your buyer does sound pretty U to me.

Some people will try it on. You are right not to be bullied into anything.

Sorry you are so tired too!

Never offer a partial refund. Politely offer a full refund once it's returned.

You can easily fight a 'not as described' case on a 64 year old skirt, everyone would expect some bobbling.

You can rude feedback removed if it's inaccurate. So just offer a refund once you've got it back.

She's being a bully in the hope that you give in and refund her and let her keep the skirt. As hard as it is, stick to your guns. She returns it tracked THEN she gets a refund. Not before.

Buyers on eBay only do this because 9 times out of 10 they get away with it. I've been there and you need to be firm.

If they give you negative feedback that isn't warranted speak to eBay and they'll remove it.

eBay isn't a nice place to sell anymore. Sorry you feel tired, maybe try places like NCT sales and Facebook groups for selling things? Thanks

I had similar recently. Sold a freshly laundered item and buyer complained that it stank of smoke. No one in our house smokes so i disputed that but told her if she returned it, tracked, at her own expense I would refund the item cost but not the postage. Funny that it never came back.

I know how you feel, some people really try it on. I've had near new designer stuff sell for 99p and people don't want to pay much in postage so I send them second class, then they say it hasn't turned up but if I'd put the recorded delivery on, no-one would have paid the postage. You just can't win really. Perhaps try seling on local facebook sites so that people can pick up and see items before they buy. I once had a buyer who I sold a child's coat to and she was adament it was faded, I know the company had done the same cost a few years previously in a darker shade and I'm sure she was thinking of that! I ended up having to fully refund to avoid negative feedback. So annoying you literally have to describe everything as fully as possible.

As far as I know paypal rules state that it is the BUYERS responsibility to pay to return an item and the seller only has to give a full refund if the item is returned... Could be wrong though Grin

Report her to eBay as an unfair buyer. Leave negative report on her as a buyer... do whatever you can and then stop using eBay

I think you can now report someone for abusing the buyer protection scheme, maybe you could try that?

I've had this happen to me too, and a friend of mine has stopped selling on Ebay because if the unfairly biased buyer protection.

I've given up on eBay, it's too much hassle. I'm having success with Gumtree instead. Free to advertise, collection only, no selling fees.

She wants an 80% refund on 99p! Have I got that wrong Grin

I'm sure like Rocky said it's the buyers responsibility to return items for a refund.

She sounds a right PITA, don't let her walk all over you!

I stopped selling on ebay because of this...Sometimes local FB groups are a better option.

Thanks for your support. When people are bullies they make me feel in the wrong!

I have replied telling her I'll refund her if she posts it back. I subtly accused her of trying to pull a fast one because I do think she was pushing for a full refund AND to keep it.

I said if you're not happy leave me negative feedback and escalate a case, I don't care. I was very polite about it though.

Just because I didn't use the actual word bobbled, doesn't mean it isn't as described. Jesus. I wish I had and think I meant to but was so busy I forgot but hell there are 10 clear photos! There is hardly any bobbling anf I have worn it myself. they'd come off with a lint roller.

Buyers think we're all scared of feedback and cases, don't they? i would never do that to someone and buy on ebay all the time.

We have sold a lot recently. Been screwed a lot. I hate eBay now. Just painful.

She's still being stroppy so I out and out accused her of trying to scam me and reported her. I paid £30 for this skirt in the same condition from a vintage shop! Why should she have it free and cost me loads in postage fees etc

If you think that's bad, try a bootfair. I was selling my really lovely expensive clothes that I had only worn once..they were moaning about paying a quid for a practically brand new top from oasis....they literally want to pay ten pence.

If you dont care about the negative feedback. Tell her todo one. Say she either returns it as her own expense or she kept it.

If the item is as described there's not much she can do.
Escalate it to eBay to resolve, if she continues to be a pita.

I've dealt with Muppets on there.

Just reply

"If you are unhappy please return the skirt for a refund"

Repeat as necessary.

Don't get into he said she said, don't get into 'trying to scam me' etc. Don't get into a conversation. Just stick to the stock reply.
I'm guessing she won't send it back but will leave negative feedback, at which point call (not email, physically call) eBay, explain what the buyer has done thus far and you will probably get the feedback removed.

Yanbu at all, she sounds like a taker, trying to wangle something for free. Yes report her and ask her to send the item back for a full refund, end of.

I've just logged on to my ebay account to find someone moaning that a toy listed as 'played with' condition, looks like its been played with! ! Have calmly responded to say sorry you're disappointed, and if course I will refund in full if its returned. 99p item with £3 postage. Presuming abt £4 for tracked return postage. But I'd rather refund and get the item back than let her have it for free. have had one idiot buyer in 10 years of selling... about 5 years ago. Then suddenly its one in every batch of about 4 items. Ebay was great up till this year but now its hardly worth it. Think I will check out gumtree and facebook for selling toys.
