I have it on good authority that she has the attention span of a goldfish. Her producer writes JO WHILEY in big letters on post-it notes and sticks them all round the studio. Then whenever her eye alights on one of the post-it notes she's reminded of her identity and reminds her listeners too.

There is one major reason why I can't stand listening to her: she uses "track" as a synonym for "song". It makes me grind my teeth.

Oh my lord she gives me the rage! I think she's inarticulate and a terrible interviewer. Does anyone remember that weird music chat show she hosted in the late 90s? All she really did was simper and flirt desultorily with members of minor indie bands of the day.

Gives me the rage too . I find she always come across as just a little bit too smug about herself. Ephemeral, I think it was that late night music show can't remember name as too old that put me right off her. Couldn't possibly listen to her radio show without shooting myself. Probably perfectly innocuous in person, so totally irrational.

I'm not a Jo Whiley fan though, she grates on me big style. She does say her name an awful lot, doesn't she? I hate that, like I hate when people use mine every other sentence when talking to me, but it's worse when you keep saying your own!

I used to like Jo Whiley but find her self-referential stuff really irritating. Not sure if it's a Radio 2 thing but she does come over quite badly, not just on radio but also on the telly when she does all the live music coverage.

I think she introduced the "big sister" approach to broadcasting, but Lauren Laverne on 6 Music has taken Jo Whiley's approach and run with it, managing to be warm, funny and insightful without being smug.

That said (without being tokenistic) there are still far to few women in radio and I would still take a day of Jo Whiley than Steve Wright and Jeremy Vine!

Having had my rant I realise that I've never listened to her R2 show, I'm just rememebering her on R1 and the telly.
6 Music is my radio station of choice. And Radio 4 of course. I've been too old for R1 since I was about 17...
