AIBU?

To tell my niece that Beyonce probably does not wear the perfume she endorses

My 15 year old niece wants me to buy her the new Beyonce perfume you can only get at Superdrug - will buy it for her if me and her mum think its age appropriate, trouble is she believes Beyonce actually wears it when in reality she most likely wears one that costs 1000s of pounds an ounce.

If we buy it for her should we let her down gently or let her believe she is going to be smelling like Beyonce.

Hopefully it will be too 'old' for her anyway and she wont be allowed to have it

Is she really that naive?

Would she actually be upset at the idea of Beyoncé not wearing it?

I wouldn't even think of it as an issue to tell my kids this. I'm always reminding them that celebrity endorsement is a load of old bollocks.

I'm intrigued as to how a Beyoncé perfume would be too old for a 15 year old though? Maybe if you were suggesting van cleef & arpels or something really heavy but a sleb scent is targeted at the teens and twenties.

What's the harm in letting her think she's sporting the same scent as her idol?

OP why tell her at all? Let her have her dream, she's not harming you. Its uneccessary and sounds a bit meanminded, tbh. As if you want to spoil her enjoyment. Don't burst your niece's bubble...and she probably won't take a shred of notice of what you have to say on this anyway, or even be truly bothered whether Beyonce wears the scent or not.

& if you don't want to buy it for her then step back - you're not her mum. Let her mum buy her the perfume and you buy something else. Doesn't take 2 of you to buy perfume does it? Beyonce isn't that expensive/high end.

I wouldn't tell her in case she discovers what Beyoncé actually wears and starts demanding that.

If only to save my bank balance.

How is perfume not age appropriate for a young teenager? So what if she thinks her idol sports this scent. Maybe she does lol how do you even know she doesn't. I'm 27 and I would probably wear her perfume as long as it smells nice. Prehaps you don't want to spend so much on her or can't afford it? If this is the case give her am alternative present or gift vouchers for a shop that sells said perfume.

I'm sure I read that Beyoncé is actually allergic to perfumes so doesn't wear any. Tell dn that, then you won't have to worry about buying any perfume Grin

This is a bit of a non issue. 15 is not too young for perfume, my own 15 year old is wearing One Direction perfume at the moment which I sincerely doubt any of them wear it but I do because it smells really nice

Buy her the smallest one available because it smells a bit sickly like the mix of scents is too strong. Dd loves perfume so has a vast collection of them and I think the Beyonce one was worn once. The lady gaga one is lovely.

I think you're overthinking this! Prob not occurred to her whether Beyonce actually wears it or not. Just buy it for her and let her enjoy smelling nice!

Yes you are all right I have been told its called rise and is a nice perfume I think she will just be pleased to think Beyonce had a hand in the making and chose the packaging (even it that might not be true)

Was over thinking a bit

Why would you say that to her?? It sounds mean spirited.

I doubt very much that Beyonce made the perfume. I would imagine there was a team at Coty actually making the perfume and it probably went through a few focus groups and marketing meetings before Mrs Carter had a sniff. She may have sniffed a few prototypes and picked one, but that's probably about it.

Some celebrities do actually wear their own perfumes and were very involved in their creation. Sarah Jessica Parker was heavily involved in Lovely and it is excellent. Hilary Duff made "With Love" and wore it for a solid six months.

However, in general celebrity scents are pretty much A.N.Other perfume with the name of the current hottest celebrity on it.

It matters not a jot whether the celebrity in question actually wears it or not. Most people who love perfume wear a different one every day, so it's impossible to give anyone a guarantee about how someone else would smell, and if you ask me, it's unimportant.

My rule with perfume is this: If you like it, wear it and sod what it says on the bottle.

If your niece likes the smell, it really doesn't matter whether Beyonce wears it or not, does it?

My favourite perfumes are celebrity perfumes. Half the time I dont like the celebrity Nikki Minagi being one but as long as it smells nice thats all I care about. Plus its usually cheaper than say Marc Jacobs.

Nikki Minge I love that Grin

It smells a bit weird after an hour or so. I have found a perfume by salvador dali in dds collection that is gorgeous. She also has So....? remember that one?
Why do I not nosey around her stuff more often, she has lovely things. I am currently sitting in her bedroom admiring her perfumes and jewellery.
