I'm on my period and feel like shit. Only slept 3 hours later night. Toddler in nursery and would love to get a hot water bottle and sleep for the day. Work is so quiet at the moment and there is literally nothing to do. Boss was off sick yesterday.

Just can't be arsed!!!

If you just can't be arsed, you need to go in.

Do it.

Sorry, you need to go in. If you start throwing sickies when you're ok then you could end up in disciplinary when you are genuinely too Ill to work.

Women have fought for years to get equality at work. Having a period does not mean you can't work. What would you think if a man said that.

I never have a duvet day if I'm actually feeling crap - it's a waste! I'd rather drag myself into work, then take a sickie when I'm feeling good and am going to get lots of stuff done.

Can you take your hot water bottle in to work with you? I would still go in as you never know when you're going to be genuinely off sick and you don't want a bad record. You have my sympathy though. I feel terrible when I have my period.

I vote for duvet day. Sounds like you feel shitty. One won't hurt.

Thanks for replies! Especially those who support my duvet day :)

It's not just my period though, it's general exhaustion. My toddler hasn't been sleeping well this last few weeks. I haven't had a good night's sleep in I don't know how long. We've had a death in the family recently and I'm emotionally tired. Cant bear the thought of going in to today to spend the day looking out the window. I never take time off!

I just want to curl up and cry if I'm honest.

And if a bloke wanted to stay off for whatever reason I wouldn't a bothered. It's not important to me what anyone else does. Women fought for years for equality yes. At the end of the day we got it (arguably) and it means women are now left with choices. If I choose to stay in bed and wallow I'm sure those women would be okay with that.

Wow didn't think d be getting into a feminist chat. Wimmin!

Do it. Then go in tomorrow feeling better, and work twice as hard!

I guess if you really want it that badly but don't feel quite sick "enough", you could maybe take it as annual leave? Then you can enjoy your day with a completely clear conscience?

If it's so quiet and your boss is probably off, then it should be an easy day. How about - go in, then if you are still really tired, say you feel ill and go home? In a lot of places that wouldn't get registered as a sick day so you avoid the thing of having it on your record .

Also, what you are usually like at work is relevant. If normally you work hard and rarely take time off sick then you can get away with occasional sickies. Plus depends how much leave you would get if off sick for longer.

vegas many women have periods that do incapacitate them.

Take it if you think you'll genuinely be more effective after a rest day.

Having now read your second post, I would ring in sick if I were you.

Take the day off. It sounds like you need it.

Exhaustion, pain from periods & emotional pain are all good enough reasons to take a sick day if you genuinely feel that work is just too much. Hopefully, you will feel much stronger & better by tomorrow & then able to go to work & do your job properly.

I am an employer by the way & would far rather my employees took days off when we were quiet, than drag them selves into work when they're not up to it, be completely unproductive & risk running themselves down & getting properly ill!

I work extremely hard in my office. Always go above and beyond. This past 2 weeks has been really really hard as, and I'm not exaggerating, here is literally nothing to do. It's a known quiet time before it will all kick off in a few weeks. I find having nothing to do unbearable and am at my happiest when I'm very busy.

anyway I have dropped off toddler to nursery and am currently nursing a cup of tea and hot water bottle. I hope I don't feel guilty later! And I goes I can get my much needed sleep.

Called boss, he is still off himself and was fine with me.

Thanks for support!

As I say to my DC when they are hankering after a duvet day, you might be alright when you get there, but if your not come home.

Well make the most of it and get some sleep! Don't do what I would probably do an MN all day Grin Brew

Thanks. I do strongly believe that most people are loyal, and more willing to put in extra effort when needed, if they are treated well.
