Someone has stolen my username.

I'm quite upset, I shouldn't be really.

I wouldn't be to bothered but they seem to post a lot more than me so are effectively making me the 'second' BumpandGrind.

Why would you pick a name of another member but just change the spelling slightly :(

Didnt a troll do that recently and post something pretty horrible which upset people thinking it's was the original person?

Report
Littlefish · 26/02/2014 12:31

She probably didn't know there was another similar one. There are so many usernames now, that it is completely possible to have two very similar users who happen to post in completely different places on the site.

The best thing to do would be to PM them and discuss it.

You would be surprised how many people do get upset. I saw a thread once where a poster ended up changing their name because it was so similar to another poster who had been here longer and the original poster didn't want someone having the same/similar name.

There is someone with a very similar name to me, I'm not sure which one of us was first, but I've just left up my xmas name change to avoid confusion. Although I do get confused when I see her on threads because I always think it was me and don't remember writing it Grin

Grin there are a few spotties around. I'm claiming it more though because I bloody well am spotty. Bloody acne!

Nobody would be so ridiculous as to choose the username as me, lucky eh?

My parents used to say something equally irritating about people who irritated me by copying me, something about imitation and flattery...

I think you may be overinvested in your username! I change mine every couple of weeks because of my basic paranoia that you are all my neighbours/cousins/colleagues...

I got banned from MN for a while as there was another songbird-ish named poster who turned out to be a hairy hander. They'd had various songbird-related names and MNHQ had done a fairly heavy handed sweep of all of them, which unfortunately included me.

I am the original and the best [twirls and trips a bit]

I used to change mine all the time, but one I got pregnant (and actually had things worth talking about) I've kept it.

I clicked on a thread and wondered "When did I post on this? I don't remember saying that?" A day later I realised it wasn't me! - she had "Womens" instead of "Womans" in her username.

I then got all paranoid about the spelling (pedantic? Moi?) and went off and Googled the actual magazine name to see which one of us had it right.

Didn't really mind about the similar user though - if I ever need to post anything highly personal or sensitive or potentially identifying, I always namechange. Always come back to this name for normal MNing though, it's like my work clothes or something!

Just in case anyone was wondering.. I'm the Aspie with the preemie.

The other one is newly pregnant (congrats Flowers ) and is most probably normal.

I'm sure there must be other pointy people around and I don't mind - have only been here just under 4 years. When I do a celebratory NC for special occasions I do try not to steal anyone's thunder though.

Sorry that I've 'stolen' your username OP, I had no idea it was even in use, I've never seen you post before. It's been my username for about 6 months now and I quite like it so was going to keep it. If it really bothers you though I'll change it but it seems a bit irrelevant given that I do have a bump and my hips are grinding like mad

I've seen another nn that starts with ineed I get confused when people reply that nn and shorten it to ineed because I wonder what I've said.
No idea who was here longer though.
