9 months ago I was 40. Since then I have...

developed arthritis (doc says I had it earlier, I dont believe him)

started farting ALL THE TIME and (this is the important bit) being able to identify what made me fart "Oooh, sorry, that'll be the cauli"

started pulling up and placing my boobs in my bra, something I havent had to do since me breast surgery 13 years ago

waking up with a bad hip and saying "ooh that bed is going to do for me"

saying "I'd better not, I'll be up all night" if someone offers me a cup of tea after 8pm.

I hate being 40, its shit.

I am not 40 am I?

I am 80. My mother lied.

DrunkenDaisy Mon 17-Feb-14 00:06:11

Please don't. It's my 40th birthday today...

Have you started to hold small print at arm's length and look down your nose to read it yet?

That's fun.

I'm 41 and was actually crying at how much my back hurt a after moving 20 patio slabs today

It's utter shit. I'm going to have to do some exercise classes in the winter from now on instead of relying on my gardening to keep me fit all through the year - I'm used to 4-10 hours a day in summer of pottering.

I've been sitting on my arse all winter cos it's rained so much

My birthday present to myself was my first ever pile! Never got one through pregnancy but it now decided to appear and torment me.

bragmatic Mon 17-Feb-14 00:07:38

Happy birthday Drunken!

I'm 45 soon. I'm loving life, really. grin

LiberalLibertine Mon 17-Feb-14 00:09:07

Bogeyface Mon 17-Feb-14 00:09:51

Sorry Daisy. Happy Birthday! I am sure it is probably just me..........blush

God, I started doing that a couple of years ago and I've still got 2 years until I'm 40. My arms aren't long enough anymore.

My knees are also completely knackered, my winter dog walking boots are quite heavy and they're killing my knees

YANBU, and although I wouldn't want to see anyone I hadn't seen for a while who I used to kick about with in my 20's (because they'd notice that I'm now old, even though they would be too ) I'm trying not to be too fussed that it's all falling apart.

After all, I'm 42, my face looks like that because of hard living experience, and that's OK.

I just hope neither of the DD's are embarrassed at having such an ancient mum.

I console myself that I'm married to someone still in his 30's but looks older than I do grin

I developed a life-limiting neurological disease at 41, so I'm with you!

Though I'd been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis 2 years previous! And already been through the menopause (early! Runs in my family).

I'm falling apart. But my Grandma (though demented) is 94, so I'm hoping I have a few years yet!!

Bogeyface Mon 17-Feb-14 00:13:33

Brag funnily enough my eyesight is still 20/20 much to my opticians disgust! Its about the only think that still works!

FoxesRevenge Mon 17-Feb-14 00:13:41

YANBU

It's depressing grin

Freddiefrog Mon 17-Feb-14 00:13:42

Oh god, no I haven't. I've just had my birthday. I've got 1 year till I'm 40.

Bogeyface Mon 17-Feb-14 00:15:05

FoxesRevenge Mon 17-Feb-14 00:15:28

I had perfect vision until 42 and then within a year it started going downhill sad

FoxesRevenge Mon 17-Feb-14 00:16:45

Oh don't start with the memory, I don't even know what fucking day it is!

Bogeyface Mon 17-Feb-14 00:17:36

I love Victoria Wood on Dinnerladies.

She says "oh whats that word? I can never remember it.........Alzheimers!" always makes me laugh!

thinking101 Mon 17-Feb-14 00:17:43

Oh come on...this thread is not what I need.

But bloody hell yes I can see how that might happen. Im 38 this year. If I have been sitting for a while, then I stand, my ankles and knees feel very stiff.

i worry about fibroids and loo stuff up. Yes I do.

Bogeyface Mon 17-Feb-14 00:18:27

I never understood my mother reliance on The Calendar. Until now. Now I get it. If it isnt on The Calendar then it doesnt exist!

FoxesRevenge Mon 17-Feb-14 00:22:33

I have a friend who has always gone to the gym. She's 41 now and looks in her early thirties. I do think a lot of it is about maintenance however it's the increasing amount of time the maintenance takes that's the problem grin. She also has an full time tan (sunbed) and although having some colour makes you look alive healthy I do think this will come back to haunt her as she'll wake up one day and look like a wrinkly old leather bag.
