to think Andrew Sachs needs to get over "Sachsgate"?

Sorry Mail link.

The Sachsgate scandal happened in 2008. I didn't find it funny and thought it was immature and disgusting. However they both apologised (something which Sachs at the time seem to accept), Brand and the controller of Radio 2 resigned and Ross was suspended for 3 months without pay. There was also a fine of £150,000 from Ofcom.

Sachs received many letters of support from people including David Walliams. This also probably gave a boost to his career, as he went on to work on Coronation Street. I'm also sure his granddaughter Georgina appeared on Celebrity Big Brother.

I would never condone what happened or what was said, but punishments were put in place and there isn't really more that can be done. You can't go back and erase what happened once it's done.

So to write an article almost 6 years after it happened stating the cruelty will hurt him and his family forever I think is a tad too much now.

To quote from the article

"To be honest, the whole Brand/Ross saga remains a painful experience that we’d very much like to put behind us. But it keeps resurfacing."

So why write an article about it?

I personally haven't heard anyone speak about "Sachsgate" in a very long time. The last time I heard about it was 7/8 months ago when I read an article stating that Sachs had signed a deal to publish a book about it. So aside from Sachs talking about it himself I haven't heard this mentioned for years.

well, Russell brand NEVER apologised. I think it's up to his gd to be angry or not angry and she doesn't seem to care that he talked of her so disparagingly. If she doesn't care then it's not his own upset.

But, six years is nothing to be honest. I was forced /tricked / bullied in to resigning over twenty years ago and it still makes me feel humiliated and cross.

I don't think he owes it to Brand or Ross or the public to get over it a bit quicker. The reason it still burns I think is because they never acknowledged what rude brats they had been.

I read that and saw that it was part of a book promotion. I agree. I really don't like Ross or Brand so in no way excuse what they did but it seems a little odd to me that Andrew Sachs says that he can't forget it as its continually bought up, yet he is the one bringing it up.

They aren't going to apologise no matter how many interviews he does or articles he writes so I'm not sure what he's getting from it now. And while obviously very hurtful and humiliating for him and his family, to claim that he will be haunted forever by it seems a little OTT.

I too agree that accepting an apology does not mean the whole incident disappears from memory whether an apology was offered or not. It must have been a very distressing time for him and I can totally understand his feelings.

You may think you can choose to forget things but it is not that easy. I went through a horrible time at work last year and even though I feel like I have chosen to forgive the perpetrators I still feel hurt and humiliated by it.

But here is a video of Andrews Sachs clearly saying they had both apologised and surely he would be the one to know whether they had or not?

He's just flogging his last attempt to be seen as relevant, publicity is all.

Has he got something coming out soon?

Well Englishgirl said it a million times better than I did.

I'm not expecting the hurt or humiliation to just vanish. But the only times I have heard of Sachsgate recently have been when Sachs himself has brought it up.

If I wanted to forget about something that like Sachs himself said "put behind us", then I wouldn't write an article and release a book about it.

Sorry you went through that whipped. I'm genuinely not expecting him to forget as I'm sure it was very hurtful and humiliating. But I think to drag it up himself after 6 years when he apparently wants to put it behind him what is he trying to achieve?

It's a DM link - I'm not clicking on it.

I'm guessing the article/interview wasn't written by him. I'm guessing that he has a book to promote. The publishing company will try and set him up with interviews/coverage. The journo sent out will be trying to find an angle that will a. get the interview published not spiked and b. maybe even get her two pages with pictures or something.

Poor Mr Sachs is perhaps not inherently interesting. He is not someone who will set the pulses of the DM readership of middle-aged ladies racing.

"What angle? What angle?" thinks our poor journo.

Kerrching!!! there's still a bit of mileage in the Brand/Ross palaver.

Mr Sachs goes on an on about his book. Journo keeps on asking questions about the Ross/Brand thing.

Sachs gives journo about two paragraphs. One of which is about wanting to put it behind him - but no-one will let him (A hint that he wants to talk about his book).

Journo breathes huge sigh of relief. He/she now has bones of story. Let's Sachs witter on about book. Very little of that will see the light of print.

Journo goes home, writes story. Story printed. It looks as though Mr Sachs has gone on and on and on about the Ross/Brand thing.

But ... it doesn't matter. Sachs has publicity for new book. Journo has money to pay rent/mortgage/buy food/pay school fees. It is a job. A skilled job. Journo has to come up with something that people want to read. He/she has managed that. It is not an easy task.

Also, my tuppence-worth is that I find the Brand person really fucking irritating. I wish he'd fuck off. And I've only ever been irritated by his annoying media presence. Nothing personal. Also Jonathon Ross.

I really could do with a lot, lot less of these people.

Having gone back to the article, it is actually an extract from his unpublished (out Feb 20th) book.

It's written by both Sachs and also his wife.

actually its the BBC who never apologised which they should have done. As for punishments set in place they were trivial in that Ross lost 12 weeks pay for someone with his money that must ha ve been really hard.

Im sure that if the ops family had been humilated in this bizarre and sickening way she wouldnt have got over it either.

Did any of you read the stuff Sachs said about his granddaughter in an interview with a newspaper? That was far worse, IMO. Judgemental, nasty, and certainly not what you would expect from a 'caring' grandparent. So frankly, Sachs can fuck right off with his attempt at the moral high ground.

i found out his wife broke her hip the same day it happened

I accept cat.

Now I've read it the only thing I'd say is that he wrote about it in his book - which is reasonable - and the Mail chose to extract only the bit that interested them - which is reasonable of them too.

Is Sachs going to apologise for the appauling racial stereotype he endorsed?
Or the nasty things he said about his grand daughter?
Apologies all round perhaps.

Does he not realize that every time he moans about this he looks like a humourless old fart and the DM get to print even more photos of his granddaughter looking like a slapper? Let it go man!

I'm quite happy that Russell Brand seems to spend most of his time in the US these days, and I can easily avoid Jonathan Ross. I wonder if Andrew Sachs would have got a book deal without 'Sachsgate'?

I do feel sad that they were treated like this, and I don't expect him to get over it - people do remember being treated shittily. I'm just not sure how continually bringing the incident into the public eye is going to help him move on. Many many years ago I was humiliated at school in PE by a boy in my class. I am now nearly 40 and he's the manager of a supermarket near me. I won't go in there as my dislike for him is still so strong, but I don't tell anyone who'll listen why I don't shop there. Why would I? Surely bringing it up is just adding to the humiliation.

Brand the utter twat mentioned it on the JRshiw a couple of weeks ago. Didn't seem at all remorseful.

The BBC apologised.

Jonathan Ross apologised.

Russell Brand apologised.

Yes, it's time to let it go - I agree, Missed. But I suspect this is more to do with the DM highlighting aspects of the book as part of their anti-BBC agenda rather than Sachs personally bringing it all up again.

He used this just before he appeared in Coronation Street and again now. Who exactly is the media whore? I have known Russell for years and he is a weird and complicated person but seriously, this guy has milked this to death.
