AIBU?

to think that Always infinity is the worst pad I've tried in my life?

And I'm the perfect person to test it out. I've suffered from heavy periods for about four years. Had all sorts of tests done. Tried the Mirena IUD and didn't get on with it as exogenous hormones don't seem to suit me. I'm now on the copper coil for contraception due to my reaction to hormones and am fully aware that this comes with the side effect of even heavier periods. I take tranexamic acid and 800mg ibuprofen three times a day just to have periods most women would think were normal/kind of heavy.

I saw the advert for Always infinity and even though I did a double-take at the price, I bought the night time pads at a ridiculous price for 8 pads to use during the day. I thought if it did what it promised, I don't mind paying the price.

Oh my goodness, these are even worse than the budget pads you can buy for a pound! I had the worst night's sleep last night where I was so tired I didn't want to get out of bed, but I had flooded and needed to get up and put a decent pad on. And I had done my usual trick of stuffing toilet tissue in my knickers as extra protection.

Am I alone in thinking this product is shite and a complete con?

Forget about the smell for a minute! I don't care if it smells like day-old garbage if it, you know, actually soaks up blood!

Use them to take your make up off, or something! Grin

I've never tried it, but I came on to suggest trying the mooncup. It holds way more an even the biggest absorbency tampon or pad. And it doesn't feel as icky as you think to empty, wash and replace it.

Totally shite. I couldn't even get it to stick to my pants - it kept falling out!

Doesn't the 800mg ibuprofen make you bleed more? Anyway I am of the floodgates opening, 30 mins till soaked through, emergency blood transfusions ( really, no joke) menstrual persuasion too. My best method to get through a meeting with only one pit stop for a change is ... one Lillets super super plus tampon and 2 x Kotex nighttime pads overlapped to create extra length. Forget anything with wings ( encourages the flow down the legs ) and anything scented as you spend the day smelling like the waft of an overflowing San pro bin in a public toilet. Never Always .

I stopped using Always when they added the scent (bought some scented by accident, hated the smell and they made me mildly itchy too).

Infinity - a brand name already in use by BT, and with much better ads for them - are a minor change to a product wrapped up in a lot of 'sciencey' stuff. The difference on absorption, when expressed as a percentage, can look vast, when it's probably only a few mls.

OPS, have you tried Cerazette?

It's a progesterone-only pill, absolutely changed my life. I was of the "teacups attached to the ankles" school of menstruation, was on Tranexamic acid for two years, then GP suggested Cerazette and I've not even had a period since.

I know it doesn't work for everyone - I've met two women for whom it made no difference whatsoever. But do give it a try Smile

I have very heavy painful periods too OP.

Would you consider a mooncup? It has transformed my monthly nightmare so so much.

It's much cleaner and easier that you would imagine. It helps with the pain too, much easier periods and no more days off work Smile

Oh arse, really?

I've got 3 packs arriving in my shopping delivery today, the normal cheaper ones were out of stock.

Not the OP but unfortunately not everyone with a vagina can use a mooncup - I can't, and can't use tampons comfortably either. So pads it is.

I tried an infinity pad (a pack of regular Always came with two free samples in Wilkos) and while they were comfy, they really aren't worth the exorbitant price. My preferred pads are Bodyform, or Always Cotton Soft when I can find them (usually in pound shops as they're imported). Really soft and comfy, but my periods are normal-to-light so may not be much use for you.

For really heavy periods try the lilets ultra tampon - orange box. You might need to hunt around for them - my tescos has them but boots doesn't. Changed my life I now can go an hour and a hour between changes and that's wearing a night time pad as well I also use body form nighttime pads during the day to contain the flood

Also overnight try the tena lady nighttime pad - it holds a lot more and means I can get about 4 hours sleep before changing.

I bought a pack of them this week as they were on special offer, and I thought they were amazing!

I only use them as extra protection in the first couple of very heavy days when I still use tampons, but I've found them much better than the various others I've tried, and way more comfortable.

Are you sure that putting extra toilet paper in doesn't make them unable to work properly?

I did use a mooncup when I first got the coil fitted, and you're right, it was great, but then the coil managed to work it's way out. The gynaecologist said it shouldn't have anything to do with the mooncup, but I'm scared now. Its probably more to do with the extremely painful cramps I had that month.

Unfortunately I can't use tampons either. I tried them when I was a teenager and got toxic shock syndrome. I sound like one of these people who dismiss every reasonable suggestion somebody gives! Confused

ohmergerd You must be thinking of the side effect of drugs like ibuprofen that can cause ulcers and GI bleeding. Ibuprofen reduces menstrual bleeding through an effect on prostaglandin production in the uterine lining. 800mg is a very high dosage, though, and I'm thinking I need to probably get rid of this coil soon because the thought of taking it over a prolonged period worries me. Also, how do you overlap a pad?

woowoo I did try it without the toilet tissue. Within 15 minutes I had to add toilet tissue as I was just so uncomfortable.

suburban I think I might give Cerazette a try. I must have no iron left in my body now. Confused

I was put on cerazette about 18 months ago.
I love it, I haven't had a period since and my pmt has vanished.

I was on cerazette. My hormones turn me into the devil itself and i am too a human floodgate. For some weird reason tampons and moon cup made my crippling cramps worse.
I was on it for a year and it did stop periods but turned me into a fat, bloated tearful hysterical homicidal maniac with thin hair and terrible spots. I basically had permanent pms and then some.

MyChild I am a fellow no-internal-sanpro weirdo Grin

You can overlap pads by using the biggest winged pads you can get (the Lil-lets ones with the wider bottom are good) and put a non-winged maxi pad on top, parallel to the bottom pad if that makes sense? You can use the cheapy maxi pads too.

I'm really heavy too. Double up on protection so I can go an hour without changing. I loved the infinity pads! However ill never use them again as they are so damn expensive!

Mine are very heavy too, but only at night (thank goodness). I use the Sainsbury's own brand maternity pads! Grin (used to love the Mooncup, now waiting for my fanjo to go back to normal with copious pelvic floor exercises after DS!)

And yes the new Infinity thingies are rubbish. Was given a free sample and wished I hadn't bothered.

Mychild, I have had periods so heavy I couldn't leave the house, so I know exactly what you mean! I have gone to bed wearing a pad made out of one of DC's nappies. (Please don't think I am a nappy troll).
The night time pads are so poorly thought out- 7 foot long and loads of leakage at the sides.
I am peri- menopausal now, so all the suggestions on here are too late for me. But do get a blood test to check out your ferretin levels to monitor anaemia.

I've been on cerazette for 4 months, and alternate between light bleeding and clotty flooding, which is fun. Anyway, best towels I have found are the sainsburys own brand ones - way better than always, and way way way better than aldi or tesco own brand ones. the purple and blue packs are the best ones. (and no, I am not trying a mooncup, I have issues with putting anything inside me (rape survivor), so towels it will have to be)

Report
LittleBabyPigsus · 07/02/2014 10:21

Kveta yes, I get along well with Sainsbo own-brand. They're not as soft as Bodyform but cheaper which means they often win Grin

Sorry about your experiences.

Tuhlulah yep to night pads never being wide enough. The new night time lil-lets ones are good because they are wider at the bottom, but why no other night pad has this I don't know.
